Is Base44 worth it in 2026?
The short version: for one real app with a custom domain, backend functions and GitHub sync, the $40 Builder plan is the first tier that earns its place. Here is what the two credit meters buy, where the free plan runs dry, and when Bolt.new’s $25 plan is the smarter spend.
The quick answer
Base44 costs $16 a month on Starter, $40 on Builder and $80 on Pro when billed yearly, and it has a free plan with 25 message credits a month. Builder is the cheapest plan that lists backend functions and GitHub integration, and at $480 a year it covers roughly 250 small features a month. The catch is the two credit meters: message credits pay for building, integration credits pay for every email, image and AI call your live app makes, and unused credits expire each month. It is worth it for a working app you will iterate on for a few months. It is not the right tool if you need full developer control or expect heavy AI traffic on a small plan. The strongest alternative is Bolt.new Pro at $25 a month billed monthly, which meters tokens instead of credits.

Base44 is an AI app builder that starts free and charges by credits. On yearly billing the paid plans cost $16, $40, $80 and $160 a month for Starter, Builder, Pro and Elite, and the free plan gives 25 message credits a month. For most people building one real app, Builder at $40 a month billed yearly is the plan to price against, not the $16 headline.
Base44 is owned by Wix. You pay a subscription to build, then a second meter for everything the finished app does. The two credit types run out at different speeds, and the plan name tells you very little about which one you will hit first. This review works through the numbers from Base44’s own pricing and credit documentation, and says where a bigger plan is the smarter buy.

What you get
- ✓A backend in every plan: the database and authentication come with the free plan, so you do not start by wiring up a separate host.
- ✓A low entry price: Starter at $16 a month billed yearly covers unlimited apps, in-app code edits and a connected domain.
- ✓You can take the code with you: on Builder and above, the GitHub integration lets you export the app’s code to GitHub.
- ✓A domain for the first year: yearly plans include a free domain for one year, so a Builder year includes the domain.
- ✓Upgrades keep unused credits: moving to a higher monthly plan carries unused credits over for one more cycle.
The trade-offs
- ✕Two meters, one bill: message credits run out while you build and integration credits run out while people use the app, so a plan can fit one stage and fail the other.
- ✕A 5-credit daily cap on Free: the free plan pauses credit features each day, so a build can stall even with monthly credits left.
- ✕Unused credits expire: paid credits reset monthly and bonus or top-up credits never carry over, so a quiet month is a lost month.
- ✕Annual perks disappear on monthly billing: the free domain for one year is a yearly-plan perk only.
- ✕Payment fees are not published by Base44: the rate to budget with is Wix’s US card rate, not a Base44 price.
Worth it if…
- →You want one real app with login, a database and your own domain, and you expect to iterate on it for a few months.
- →You are not a developer and want to skip the setup, but you want the option to export the code to GitHub on Builder.
- →You can plan around a credit budget that resets each month.
- →Your app is a form, a dashboard or an internal tool with few emails and few AI calls once people use it.
Skip it if…
- →You only want to try app building. The free plan covers that, and its 5-credit daily cap is a trial limit.
- →Your app will make heavy AI or email calls on a small plan, because integration credits will run out first.
- →You need developer-level control over the code. A code-first tool such as Cursor fits that work better.
- →You plan to take card payments and have not worked out Base44 Payments fees at your expected sales volume.
What the credits actually buy
Base44 meters two things, and most price comparisons only count the first. Message credits pay for the AI while you build. A simple visual or text change costs about 0.5 credit, a small feature about 1, a complex module about 2, and an app-wide change 3 to 4. On Starter’s 100 credits that is roughly 100 small features, or 50 complex modules, or 200 simple edits in a month. Builder’s 250 gives a solo builder room for a full month of steady changes to one app.
Integration credits pay for what the finished app does. A built-in email costs about 1 credit, an AI image about 1, and an LLM call on the Automatic model about 1. A message to an in-app agent on Automatic costs about 3. Those costs multiply with users: a chatbot that answers 500 visitor messages a month uses about 1,500 integration credits, which fits Starter’s 2,000 with room to spare. Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol cost more per message than the Automatic rate.
The free plan is a trial, and the daily cap is the real limit
The free plan gives 25 message credits a month and a hard cap of 5 credits a day. At full use that is five days of building. When the daily balance is gone, credit-based features pause until the next day, even if monthly credits are left. Five apps, authentication, a database and analytics are enough to see whether the workflow suits you. They are not enough for an app you plan to put in front of customers.
The yearly discount comes with strings attached
Yearly billing takes 20% off. Starter drops from $20 to $16 a month, and Builder from $50 to $40. On Builder that is $120 saved a year, $480 instead of $600. The strings are real, though. The free domain for one year is a yearly-plan perk, so a monthly subscriber does not get that voucher.
Upgrades are the other lever. Moving to a higher monthly plan charges the full price difference, and unused credits carry over for one more cycle. Any upgrade that involves a yearly plan is prorated, and its unused credits expire at the next reset. Bonus and top-up credits never carry over in either case, so buy them only when the wall is in front of you.
What it costs to take payments or send mail from the app
Base44 Payments lets an app take money, and it is subject to service fees under Wix’s payments terms. Base44 publishes no payment rate of its own. Wix’s published US card rate is 2.9% plus $0.30 per payment, and 3.7% plus $0.30 for American Express. Budget with that rate until Base44 publishes its own. It is a cost on top of the plan price.
Email is the second meter people miss. A built-in email costs about 1 integration credit, and an email sent from your own domain costs about 2. On Starter’s 2,000 integration credits, that is roughly 2,000 plain emails a month before anything else runs.
How Base44 compares with Bolt.new and Lovable
Bolt.new and Lovable are the two closest app-builder alternatives, and they meter differently. Bolt.new Pro is $25 a month billed monthly, starting at 10 million tokens a month with no daily limit, and unused tokens roll over for one extra month. Its free plan gives 1 million tokens a month with a 300,000 daily limit. Tokens and credits are different units, so no allowance converts cleanly into the other. Compare the price, then test how fast the allowance runs out on your own builds.
Lovable is credit-based too. Its free plan grants 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, plus 20 Cloud credits, and monthly plan credits expire two months after they are issued. Lovable allows unlimited workspace members on every plan. This page compares only its free grants and expiry rules.
Academy data: our Bolt.new and Replit prompt packs each hold 30 build prompts, and Lovable’s holds 21. Base44 has no pack yet, so every Base44 figure on this page comes from the vendor.
The verdict
For a real app with a custom domain, backend functions and GitHub sync, Builder at $40 a month billed yearly is the plan to buy. It costs $480 a year, includes a free domain for the first year, and covers roughly 250 small features a month. Starter at $16 a month billed yearly is a fair price for one lightly edited app, but its plan list does not include the backend functions and GitHub integration that make an app easier to grow. Free is for testing, not for shipping.
Two honest caveats. Budget for the meter you will hit first, which is usually message credits while you build and integration credits once people use the app. And if you want to write the code yourself, or your app depends on heavy AI calls, a token-metered tool like Bolt.new at $25 a month billed monthly may be the better buy. The biggest waste is paying for Pro before you have hit the Builder limit.
Better alternatives?
If it is not the right fit, these are worth a look.
Bolt.new
Costs $25 a month billed monthly on Pro, half of Base44 Builder’s monthly rate. It meters tokens instead of credits, with no daily limit on paid plans.
Lovable
Credit-based like Base44, with a free grant of 5 build credits a day and a two-month expiry on monthly credits. Its paid prices are not compared on this page.
Replit
Our Replit review covers its plans and what they include. This page does not price Replit.
Frequently asked questions

How much does Base44 cost per month?▾
Billed yearly, the plans cost $0 (Free), $16 (Starter), $40 (Builder), $80 (Pro) and $160 (Elite) a month. Billed monthly, the paid plans cost $20, $50, $100 and $200. Yearly billing saves 20%.
Is there a free Base44 plan?▾
Yes. The free plan includes 25 message credits and 100 integration credits a month, up to 5 apps, and the core features: authentication, database functionality and analytics. It caps you at 5 credits a day, so a full monthly allowance can take five days of heavy use.
What is the difference between message credits and integration credits?▾
Message credits pay for the AI while you build: about 0.5 for a simple change, about 1 for a small feature and about 2 for a complex module. Integration credits pay for what the live app does, such as about 1 per email or LLM call on the Automatic model, and about 3 per message to an in-app agent.
Do Base44 credits roll over?▾
No, on paid plans credits reset on your subscription day and unused credits expire. Bonus and top-up credits never carry over. The one exception is an upgrade from one monthly plan to a higher monthly plan, where unused credits carry over for one more cycle.
What happens to my apps if I cancel Base44?▾
Your workspace drops to the Free plan at the end of the billing period, and Free allows a maximum of 5 apps. Your apps stay live, but you lose any features that only paid plans include.
