Is ClickUp Brain worth it in 2026?

ClickUp folded Brain into its plans. What each plan gives you in AI, what a 5- or 10-person team pays, and how it compares with Notion Business.

By AI Academy editorial team·Published November 5, 2026

The quick answer

ClickUp Brain is worth it for teams that already run their tasks and docs in ClickUp and are willing to be on the Business plan. As of October 29, 2026, ClickUp’s pricing page no longer sells Brain as a separate add-on: every plan ships with ClickUp Brain², and Business at $17 per user per month billed yearly is the first plan with unlimited standard AI models. Core at $9 only includes a Brain² trial plus 1,000 pooled AI credits per user. The catch is that ClickUp bills the whole Workspace, so every member pays. Notion Business, at $20 per member per month billed yearly, is the closest alternative.

Short answer: ClickUp Brain is worth paying for if ClickUp is already where your team’s work lives, and the price question changed this autumn. Through the October 1, 2026 archived pricing page, Brain AI was a $9 per user per month card sold on top of Unlimited ($7) or Business ($12). As of October 29, 2026, ClickUp’s pricing page says “Every plan ships with ClickUp Brain²” and lists Core at $9 and Business at $17 per user per month billed yearly.

So the question is now whether Business is worth $17 a seat for the whole Workspace: Core includes only a trial of Brain²’s models, and Business is the first plan with unlimited standard AI models (subject to fair use). Below: both priced for 5 and 10 users, against Notion Business, plus what paying users say.

Prices are per user per month billed yearly, as printed on clickup.com/pricing; the struck-through “regular price” is shown in brackets. Enterprise is quote-only. Asterisk: subject to fair usage, per ClickUp.

What you get

  • ✓AI now in every plan: Brain² and a monthly credit pool ship with all plans, including Free Forever (500 credits per workspace).
  • ✓Cheaper than the old Business plus Brain AI: $17 bundled versus $12 plus $9 on the October 1, 2026 page.
  • ✓Workspace context: answers draw on your tasks, docs and chat rather than a blank chat window.
  • ✓Undercuts Notion Business: $17 versus $20 per seat per month on yearly billing.

The trade-offs

  • ✕Whole-Workspace billing: every member pays, even those who never open Brain.
  • ✕Core is only a trial of the models: unlimited standard models start on Business at $17.
  • ✕Credit meter: agents, AI fields and image generation draw on pooled credits, with top-ups at $10 per 10,000.
  • ✕Higher bill for non-AI teams: Business on yearly billing rose from $12 to $17 per seat.

Worth it if…

  • →Teams that already run tasks, docs and chat in ClickUp and want AI answers grounded in that work.
  • →Teams that paid for Business plus the old Brain AI card and can move to the bundled Business plan.

Skip it if…

  • →Only a few people on the team need AI and the rest would pay for it anyway.
  • →Your documents live in Notion, Google Docs or Microsoft 365 rather than ClickUp.
  • →You plan heavy agent use and cannot predict credit consumption.

What is ClickUp Brain, and what changed in October 2026?

ClickUp Brain is the AI layer inside ClickUp: an assistant that answers from your tasks, docs and chat, AI fields, a meeting notetaker, image generation and credit-based agents.

Through at least October 1, 2026 it was sold separately. The October 1, 2026 snapshot shows two AI cards beside the work plans: Brain AI at $9 per user per month (unlimited Brain assistant, AI chat with Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, 1,500 AI Super Credits per user monthly) and Everything AI at $28, which added unlimited AI Notetaker, image generation, AI fields and 5,000 credits. The current page drops both cards and renames the ladder: Free Forever, Core, Business, Enterprise and a new Max plan at $100 billed yearly.

One caution. A pricing tracker recorded on October 15, 2026 that both layouts were being served to different sessions, so some visitors may still see the older Unlimited, Business and Brain AI lineup; confirm which one your checkout or renewal quote uses.

How has ClickUp Brain’s price changed?

Archived copies of ClickUp’s pricing page show the AI price changing three times since 2024, while the base plans held still until this month:

May 4, 2024: “ClickUp AI” was a new add-on, “Add to any paid plan for $5 per member per month” (snapshot). Unlimited was $7 and Business $12 per user per month.
December 5, 2024: the same pitch now read “Add to any paid plan for $7/user/mo” (snapshot), with Unlimited and Business unchanged at $7 and $12.
May 5, 2026: the AI section had split into Brain AI at $9 and Everything AI at $28 per user per month (snapshot); Unlimited $7 and Business $12, billed yearly, still unchanged. The October 1, 2026 snapshot shows the same figures and adds the monthly-billing rates of $10 for Unlimited and $19 for Business.
October 29, 2026: AI bundled into every plan; Core $9, Business $17, Max $100 per user per month billed yearly (live page).

For a team that never bought AI, Business on yearly billing went from $12 to $17 per seat, $5 more per user per month (our arithmetic). For a team that paid for Business plus Brain AI, the old total was $12 plus $9, or $21 per user per month as printed, so the bundled $17 is $4 less on those printed figures, provided the new credit allowance covers what the team used.

What does a 5- or 10-person team pay?

ClickUp’s FAQ is blunt about seats: “To upgrade ClickUp, you’ll need to upgrade your entire Workspace, which means all members in your Workspace.”

Our arithmetic on the yearly prices printed on October 29, 2026: Core costs $540 a year for 5 users and $1,080 for 10. Business costs $1,020 a year for 5 users and $2,040 for 10. The $480 or $960 gap buys unlimited standard AI models, premium models beyond a trial, 500 more credits per user, 10,000 automation actions instead of 1,000, advanced dashboards and Google SSO.

Credits are pooled. A 10-person Business Workspace gets 15,000 credits a month to share (10 x 1,500, our arithmetic), and extra credits cost $10 per 10,000. Heavy agent use is where costs climb.

ClickUp Brain vs Notion AI on a Business plan

Notion is a common alternative, and it also bundles AI into its higher plan. Notion’s pricing page plan data lists Business at $24 per member per month billed monthly or $240 a year ($20 a month) billed yearly, and Plus at $12 monthly or $120 a year. Plus includes only a “Trial of Notion AI”; Business adds Notion Agent and AI Meeting Notes. Custom Agents are “Free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits.” See Notion pricing.

On yearly billing, Notion Business costs $1,200 a year for 5 members and $2,400 for 10, against $1,020 and $2,040 for ClickUp Business (our arithmetic). ClickUp is $180 to $360 a year cheaper and adds time tracking, Gantt charts and sprints. Notion’s case is docs and wikis first: if your team mostly writes and plans in pages, its higher seat price can still be the better buy.

Credit units do not compare across vendors (10,000 ClickUp credits or 1,000 Notion credits for $10), so test your heaviest AI job in each.

What do users say about ClickUp Brain?

The main ClickUp iOS app averages 4.7 from 10,005 US ratings, and the standalone Brain MAX app averages 4.8 from 45 ratings (App Store, October 29, 2026).

The pricing complaints are concentrated on ClickUp’s own public feature-request board, where a June 2025 request for more flexible Brain pricing has 57 votes. The recurring theme is all-or-nothing billing. A commenter on October 3, 2025 wrote: “It is not feasible for our small company to pay for ALL our users to have Clickup AI.” Another, on August 29, 2025: “It would really be important that you don’t have to buy the AI functions for everyone.”

The second theme is credits. On August 20, 2026, a user wrote that “the current pricing is so confusing,” describing paying for the AI bundle and still buying credits on top. On September 9, 2026, another asked: “Who decided that tripling prices overnight was a good idea?”

Who gets value from Brain, and who should wait?

Brain is strongest where its context is richest: if projects, specs and meeting notes already live in ClickUp, its answers use data no outside chatbot can see.

It is weaker for a team that uses ClickUp as a light task list, keeps documents elsewhere, or only has two or three AI users. It now pays for AI in every seat. Microsoft 365 Copilot makes more sense if the documents live in Word, Outlook and Teams.

Academy data: two of the prompt packs in our library are written for ClickUp (16 ChatGPT prompts and 30 Claude prompts), and only the Claude pack mentions ClickUp Brain, in its FAQ (counted October 29, 2026).

The verdict

Pay for it if ClickUp is your team’s system of record and you would have been on Business anyway: at $17 per seat billed yearly, Business with Brain² costs less than the old $12 plus $9 combination and less than Notion Business at $20. Do not pay for it if most of your members would never use AI: whole-Workspace billing makes that a $5 per seat increase over the old Business price, and Core’s Brain² is only a trial.

What would change the answer: per-user AI seats (a request with 57 votes on ClickUp’s board), or ClickUp reverting to the older lineup it was still serving some visitors in October. Before you commit a year, try Brain² on a real project with the Free plan’s 500 trial credits, watch how fast credits drain, and keep the 30-day refund window in mind.
