Is Ideogram worth it in 2026?
The short version: yes on Plus if you make text-heavy images every month. Here is what each plan’s credits buy per image, what the free plan covers, and where Pro or pay as you go changes the math.
The quick answer
As of 19 October 2026, Ideogram Plus is worth it for monthly text-heavy images: $15 a month billed yearly ($20 billed monthly) buys 2,400 priority credits, or 400 Ideogram 4.5 Medium images (6 credits each). Pro is $42 a month billed yearly for 7,500 credits (1,250 Medium images), and eligible free accounts get 30 credits a week (5 Medium images). A marketer making 40 text-heavy images a month at five High-quality tries each (10 credits per try) uses 2,000 credits, so Plus leaves 400 spare, and Pro costs less than Plus with bought credits past about 5,100 credits a month. The catches: monthly credits expire, edits and reference images still cost credits in the slower queue, and free-plan images are public. Compare Midjourney in our review if your images carry no text.

Ideogram sells credits, not images. On 19 October 2026 its pricing page lists Plus, Pro and Team subscriptions, all cheaper billed yearly, plus pay as you go at one cent per credit. An Ideogram 4.5 image costs between 0.8 and 22 credits depending on quality and source images, so the plan name tells you little.
This review prices one month. A marketer needs 40 finished posters and ad images with legible text, and we assume five generations for every image that ships. Those two numbers are assumptions you can swap for your own; the credit costs, allowances and prices are Ideogram’s.

What you get
- ✓A known credit cost per image: 3, 6 or 10 credits at Ideogram 4.5 Low, Medium and High.
- ✓Plus covers a real workload: 2,400 credits is 400 Medium images or 240 High images a month.
- ✓Yearly billing saves 25% on Plus: $180 a year instead of $240.
- ✓Bought credits last 365 days, so an overflow month is not wasted.
- ✓Private output on subscriptions: Plus, Pro and Team keep new images unpublished until you publish them.
The trade-offs
- ✕Monthly credits expire instead of rolling over.
- ✕“Unlimited” slow credits skip edits, upscales and reference images, which still cost credits.
- ✕Reference images are the costly case: High with source images is 22 credits, so 2,400 credits buys 109.
- ✕Free images are public, and other users may remix them.
- ✕No refunds and no free trial, and a yearly plan cannot be moved back to monthly from the Plans page.
Worth it if…
- →You make text-heavy images such as posters and ad creative every month and want a budget you can compute.
- →You want private generation, which Plus, Pro and Team include. The pricing table also ticks it for pay as you go, but the help center does not list that plan, so check before buying credits.
- →You are two or more people who each need their own allowance, because Team needs at least 2 users.
Skip it if…
- →You make a handful of images a week at most. The free plan or pay as you go may cost less.
- →Most of your work uses reference images or heavy editing, which cost credits even in the slower queue.
- →You need a trial or a refund option before you commit to a yearly plan.
How much does Ideogram cost, and what do the plans include?
Yearly billing saves 25% on Plus, 30% on Pro and 33% on Team. In dollars that is $60 a year on Plus, $216 on Pro and $120 per user on Team, against paying monthly. A yearly plan still hands out its credits month by month, not all at once, and prices exclude tax.
Plus includes all image and video models, private generation, unlimited slow credits, unlimited character consistency, quality export and a larger generation queue. Pro adds Batch Generation, a queue that holds 32 running and queued generations against 8 on Plus, and limited custom model training. Team adds central billing and administration, with credits assigned to each member, and needs at least 2 users: two seats cost $40 a month billed yearly for 7,200 credits split between two people.
Enterprise is custom-priced. The older Basic plan is closed to new buyers, and Ideogram’s Plans and Credits page says existing subscribers keep it with 960 credits a month. Ideogram also says it does not offer free trials for subscription plans.
How many credits does one Ideogram image cost?
Ideogram 4.5 costs 3 credits per image on Low, 6 on Medium and 10 on High. High with source images costs 22 credits, and the lowest figure in the table is 0.8 credits for Very Low (with source images). Ideogram 4.0 (2K) costs 3, 6 and 10 credits on Turbo, Balanced and Quality. Ideogram 3.0 costs 12, 24 or 36 credits for four images, which is 3, 6 and 9 an image. All figures come from the Using your credits table on the pricing page, read on 19 October 2026.
Cost also scales with the number of outputs, so asking for four images at once costs four times the per-image rate. In most image apps the run button shows the cost before you start.
What does a month of 40 text-heavy images cost?
Take 40 finished images a month with five generations for each one that ships, or 200 generations (both numbers are assumptions). At Ideogram 4.5 Medium that is 200 × 6 = 1,200 credits, at High 200 × 10 = 2,000, and at High with source images 200 × 22 = 4,400. Plus covers the first two, leaving 1,200 and 400 credits spare out of 2,400.
The 4,400-credit case is 2,000 credits over. Bought credits cost one cent each, so Plus with that overflow comes to $35.00 billed yearly ($40.00 billed monthly), against Pro at $42 billed yearly ($60 billed monthly). Pro becomes cheaper past a crossover: Plus with one cent for every credit above 2,400 costs the same as Pro billed yearly at 5,100 credits a month, and the same as Pro billed monthly at 6,400.
Pay as you go has no subscription. The same three months cost $12.00, $20.00 and $44.00 at one cent per credit, so a Medium-quality month is cheaper there than on Plus billed yearly. The trade-off is that pay as you go has no slower queue, and Ideogram says it is not open to accounts with an active subscription.
Is there a free Ideogram plan, and what are its limits?
Free accounts get 30 credits a week if they sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft, per Ideogram’s Plans and Credits page. Email sign-ups get none, and the pricing page notes the amount may vary. Thirty credits buy 10 Ideogram 4.5 images on Low, 5 on Medium or 3 on High, and when they run out there is no slower queue: you wait or buy credits.
On the free plan everything you generate is public, and the Terms of Service (section 4.2) let other users remix output that is not Private Content. Downloads are JPEG at original size. PNG, WEBP and larger sizes need a paid plan, except transparent images, which download as a 1K PNG.
Can you use Ideogram images commercially?
Ideogram’s pricing page says you are free to use generated images for any purpose, including commercial use, and points to the Terms of Service. Section 2.1 says Ideogram claims no ownership of your output and does not restrict using it for your own purposes, including commercial ones. The terms do not tie that to a paid plan.
Read the rest before client work. The terms say output may not be unique, and section 4.2 disclaims liability for commercial use and tells you to consider what permissions you need from third parties.
What do pay as you go and the API cost?
Pay as you go is one cent per credit with no monthly allowance, and Ideogram’s Buying Extra Credits page says that is the price whether or not you have a plan. Bought credits are spent after your monthly credits and expire 365 days after purchase.
The API tab of the pricing page bills per generated image: Ideogram 4.5 is $0.03 on Low, $0.06 on Medium and $0.10 on High, and $0.22 for High with source images, matching the credit costs above at one cent each. The default rate limit is 10 in-flight requests. The pricing table marks quality export as included on pay as you go, but Ideogram’s Download page says PNG and WEBP need a paid plan, so check the download menu first.
Where do Ideogram’s “unlimited” credits stop?
“Unlimited” slow credits come with exclusions. After your credits run out, Plus, Pro and Team keep generating with Ideogram models in a slower queue with no limit, but custom models, models from other providers, generations that use a reference image, edits and upscales still need credits.
The money rules are strict too. Unused monthly credits expire each billing cycle. The Terms of Service make subscription payments non-refundable and ask you to cancel five days before renewal, and a yearly plan cannot be switched back to monthly from the Plans page. A custom model training run is listed at 4,000 credits ($40.00), more than half of Pro’s 7,500.
Ideogram vs Midjourney and other image tools
This page prices Ideogram and does not rank it. Our Midjourney review covers that tool’s plans and names Ideogram as an option when an image needs legible text. For other credit systems, see our Leonardo AI, Krea AI and Adobe Firefly reviews. None of their prices are repeated here.
Our Ideogram prompt pack splits its 30 prompts into six sets of five: logos, posters and flyers, typography art, packaging mockups, social graphics with captions and photorealistic scenes. The poster and flyer set is a place to start before you spend credits.
The verdict
Is Ideogram worth it in 2026? For a marketer who makes text-heavy images every month, yes, on Plus billed yearly. Its 2,400 credits cover our 40-image month at Medium or High quality, and private generation comes with it. Move to Pro for batch generation, custom models or more than about 5,100 credits a month.
The honest limits: credits expire, “unlimited” slow credits exclude edits and reference-image work, and a yearly plan cannot be refunded.
