Is Riverside worth it in 2026?
Tier-by-tier pricing from the vendor page, which AI features each plan includes, what the free plan really gives you, and who should skip it.
The quick answer
Riverside is worth $24 a month on annual billing ($288 a year, or $29 billed monthly) if you record remote guests and need each person on a separate track, 4K video and no watermark. The free plan gives you 2 hours of multi-track recording once, 720p video and a Riverside watermark. Most of the AI that saves editing time, including unlimited transcription, show notes and Magic Audio, starts at Pro. Magic Clips is the exception: it is on the free plan. If you only record solo or only need clips, a simpler tool may do the job.

Yes, at Pro, if you record remote guests. Pro costs $24 a month on annual billing ($288 a year), or $29 billed monthly. It adds 4K video, no watermark and monthly separate-track downloads, so each guest can be edited on their own track. Riverside is a recording studio first and an AI editor second. The AI features are real, but the ones that save the most editing time sit on the paid tiers, so the free plan works as a trial rather than a production tool.
Riverside was founded in 2020 by two brothers, Gideon and Nadav, and it sells to podcasters, producers and marketers. The pricing page lists five plans. This review works through what each one includes, which AI features sit on which tier, where the caps are, and who should pay. Every price and feature below comes from the vendor's own pricing page, read on 10 October 2026.

What you get
- ✓15 hours of separate-track downloads a month on Pro, against a one-off allowance on the free plan.
- ✓Up to 4K video, 48kHz audio and no watermark from Pro, against 720p and a watermark on Free.
- ✓Magic Clips on the free plan, so you can test clip generation before you pay.
- ✓Unlimited transcription on Pro, with Magic Audio, AI show notes and speaker detection on the same tier.
- ✓A 14-day free trial on Pro, Grow and Webinar, and up to 20% off when you pay yearly.
- ✓Recording itself is unlimited on paid plans, so only the separate-track downloads have a monthly cap.
The trade-offs
- ✕Multi-track recording on the free plan is a one-off allowance, so the plan is a trial, not a monthly tool.
- ✕Separate-track downloads stop at the monthly cap until the next billing cycle or an upgrade.
- ✕AI credits run out. Pro starts with 2,000, and AI translation, AI B-roll and animated clips draw on them.
- ✕Collaborative editing needs Business, which is quote-only, and extra editor seats cost extra on the lower tiers.
- ✕Webinar is the costliest listed plan, at $79 a month billed yearly or $99 monthly, so buy it only if you run webinars.
- ✕Live streaming sits on Grow and registration, Q&A and polls sit on Webinar, so a webinar business needs the higher tiers.
Worth it if…
- →You record remote interviews or panels and need each guest on a separate track.
- →You publish video or audio and need 4K, no watermark and unlimited transcription.
- →You want Magic Clips, show notes and transcripts from the same recording without a second tool.
- →You run one show that fits inside Pro's monthly separate-track downloads.
Skip it if…
- →You record solo narration or screen tutorials, where separate tracks add little.
- →You only need clips from recordings you already have. A clipping tool may do that job on its own.
- →You run several shows or a team that edits together. Extra studios and collaborative editing raise the cost quickly.
- →You need webinar registration, Q&A and polls. That starts at the Webinar tier.
What you are actually paying for
Riverside records each participant locally rather than relying on the live call alone. Local recording is on every tier, according to the feature table on the pricing page. Each guest's audio and video land on their own track, so you can cut, level and repair one person without touching the others. That is the core product. If your show is solo narration or screen tutorials, you are paying for a feature you will not use.
Pro is the plan that fits most people who record remote guests. It is the first tier with 4K video, no watermark, a monthly separate-track download allowance, one studio, unlimited transcription and the main AI editing tools. Grow and above add live streaming, hosting, scheduling and webinar features, which only pay off if you run those jobs. Two studios cost more than one, so ask whether your work is one show or several.
Which AI features each tier includes
Riverside's AI is the main reason people look at it, so the tier split matters more than the headline price. The feature table on the pricing page marks each capability against each plan. Here is the split, read tier by tier on 10 October 2026.
Free includes Magic Clips, along with Magic Episode, Magic Segments, Magic Hooks, the AI Co-Creator editing and repurposing agent, AI blog post and Instagram caption generation, text-based editing, filler word removal and silence removal. The free card lists Magic Clips without a monthly clip cap, and the page does not print one. Check the limit inside the app before you plan a publishing schedule around it.
Pro adds Magic Audio, AI show notes, speaker detection, Magic Clips and episodes personalized to your show, eye contact correction, AI text-to-speech, VideoDub and unlimited transcriptions. Pro is also the first tier that removes the watermark. For most podcasters the transcript and show notes are the part worth paying for, because they feed the blog post, the captions and the clips.
Grow adds AI thumbnails and the Riverside MCP, which connects the account to AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor so they can search transcripts and cut clips. Business adds video enhancement. AI credits are a separate meter: Pro starts with 2,000 and Business with 12,000, and they pay for AI translation, AI B-roll and animated clips. Magic Clips, Magic Audio and the AI Co-Creator use no credits, according to Riverside's FAQ.
The free plan, read closely
The free plan is generous on editing and thin on recording. You get 2 hours of multi-track recording as a one-off allowance, not a monthly one, which covers a short show and then nothing. Video stops at 720p with a Riverside watermark on everything you export, and the audio is 44.1 kHz rather than the 48 kHz on the paid tiers.
Unlimited single-track recording, editing and video calls with no time limit are all on the free card, so you can run a conversation without paying. The catch is the export. A watermarked 720p file is fine for a test, a rough cut or an internal review, and not fine for a show that competes on production quality. Treat the free plan as a trial that answers one question: does this workflow suit me? It does not answer the cost question for a show.
Where the cost climbs after you pay
Pro is the entry point for paid plans, and the page is clear about the meters that rise as you grow. Separate-track downloads are capped at 15 hours a month on Pro, 20 on Grow and 25 on Webinar. Recording itself is unlimited on paid plans, according to the FAQ. If you go over the download cap, you can still reach your content, but you cannot download new separate tracks until the next billing cycle or until you upgrade.
Studios are the second meter: one on Pro, two on Grow, three on Webinar and unlimited on Business. Each studio carries its own recordings, hosting and analytics, so two shows mean two studios. Additional editor seats are an add-on on Pro, Grow and Webinar. Collaborative editing and custom roles come only with Business, which the page sends to sales. Annual billing saves up to 20% on Pro, Grow and Webinar.
The Webinar plan is listed at $79 a month when billed yearly and $99 monthly. Twelve months at $79 comes to $948, so check the annual total at checkout before you choose Webinar on a yearly plan.
How Riverside compares with the tools we review
Descript is the better editor when your recording is a talking head you want to cut by editing the transcript. Riverside also offers text-based editing on every tier, but its strength is the recording itself: separate tracks for each guest, and live streaming from Grow up. The Descript review covers that trade-off in detail.
Opus Clip is built to turn long videos into short posts. If your recordings already exist somewhere else and you only need clips, a clipping tool can cover that job on its own. Riverside's advantage is that the recording, the transcript and the clips sit in one account, so you do not move files between tools. That matters most when you publish every week.
The verdict
For a podcaster or interviewer who records remote guests, Riverside Pro on annual billing is worth the money. You get separate tracks, 4K video, no watermark and unlimited transcription on one tier, and show notes and Magic Audio sit there too. Magic Clips is already on the free plan, so the paid case rests on the recording quality and the transcript, not the clips alone.
Two honest caveats. First, the strongest AI is on Pro and up, so do not judge Riverside by the free plan alone. Second, if your recordings are solo, or you only need clips from footage you already have, you can skip the subscription and keep the money. The best use of that money is the one that turns each recording into a transcript, show notes and clips every week, because that is where the subscription earns its cost back.
Better alternatives?
If it is not the right fit, these are worth a look.
Descript
Better when you want to edit a talking-head video from its transcript. Riverside also edits from text, but its strength is the recording itself.
Opus Clip
Clipping first. Useful if your recordings already exist somewhere else and you only need short posts from them.
Stay on the free plan
Enough to test the workflow with one or two episodes. Not enough for a show with a publishing schedule.
