AI Tool Review

Is Undetectable AI worth it in 2026?

What each word plan costs per 1,000 words, why published bypass tests disagree so sharply, what the money-back guarantee really covers, and the academic-integrity risk.

By AI Academy editorial team·Published November 3, 2026

The quick answer

Undetectable AI is worth paying for only if you use it to smooth AI-assisted drafts you are allowed to submit, not to hide AI use. Plans start at $9.99 a month for 10,000 words, or $5 a month billed yearly ($60 up front). Published bypass tests range from 0% to 93% depending on who ran them, and detector companies still catch it. Cancelling forfeits remaining words, and refunds apply only when output scores under 75% human. For students, the academic-integrity risk outweighs the price.

Short answer: it is cheap, about $1 per 1,000 words on monthly billing, but it does not reliably beat AI detectors. A June 2026 roundup by Fast.io found published tests ranging from 0% to 93% bypass against the same detectors, depending on who ran them. Detector makers such as GPTZero and Originality.ai report catching its output; an academic study found the opposite against the detectors it tested.

Below: the plans in dollars, a student cost scenario, why the test results conflict, the refund and cancellation fine print, and who has a legitimate use for it.

What you get

  • ✓Low entry price: $5 a month billed yearly for 10,000 words.
  • ✓Stable pricing: the same core prices in May 2025 and May 2026 snapshots as on the live page.
  • ✓Unlimited detection: the detector is included on every paid plan.
  • ✓Some tests show large score drops: one study found fewer than 4% of humanized abstracts still flagged.

The trade-offs

  • ✕Inconsistent results: published bypass tests range from 0% to 93%.
  • ✕Detector companies still catch it: per GPTZero and Originality.ai tests.
  • ✕Narrow refund: only for output under 75% human, within 30 days.
  • ✕Harsh cancellation: remaining words are lost, and most users must cancel by email.
  • ✕Academic risk: using it to hide AI use breaks most integrity policies.

Worth it if…

  • →Marketers and writers who may use AI drafts and want a cheap first-pass rewrite.
  • →Non-native writers smoothing AI-assisted text they then edit themselves.
  • →Users who want an unlimited AI detector to check their own drafts.

Skip it if…

  • →You want to submit AI-written coursework as your own.
  • →You need reliable results against a specific detector such as Turnitin.
  • →You already pay for a writing assistant that rewrites for tone.

What does Undetectable AI cost?

The pricing page sells monthly word allowances. The entry plan is 10,000 words for $9.99 a month, or $5.00 a month charged annually as $60. Larger plans cover 20,000, 35,000 and 50,000 words, and a slider runs up to 380,000 words. Every plan includes unlimited AI detection, the Human Auto Typer and API access. A free trial is limited to 250 words.

Prices have held steady. The May 1, 2025 archive snapshot already lists the 10,000-word plan at $5.00 a month charged annually at $60, and 20,000 words at $19 a month. The May 3, 2026 snapshot shows the same $9.99, $19.00 and $31.00 monthly prices as today. Non-expiring word credits are offered only on custom business plans.

A student scenario, by our arithmetic: three 2,000-word essays a month is 6,000 words, inside the 10,000-word plan. Paying monthly for a school year of nine months costs about $90; the yearly plan costs $60 but is paid up front for twelve months. Light users can cancel after one month, but see the cancellation rules below first.

Does it actually beat AI detectors?

Sometimes, against some detectors, on some text. Originality.ai’s test rated Undetectable AI’s rewrite “Likely AI with 100% Confidence,” the same as the untouched ChatGPT draft, and GPTZero still scored it 91% AI. GPTZero’s review, updated January 27, 2026, concludes that “GPTZero can clearly spot Undetectable AI’s paraphrased text.” Both companies sell detectors, so they have a stake in the outcome.

Tests with the opposite result exist too. Fast.io’s roundup cites a third-party test in which an academic essay’s Turnitin score dropped from 97% to 9% after humanizing, with the same essay varying between 6% and 12% across three runs. Text length, the model that wrote the draft, the settings used and detector updates all move the numbers.

The most careful evidence is an academic study, “Why AI Detection Fails for Academic Integrity”, first posted August 6, 2026 and accepted to the ACM AI Leadership Summit. After Undetectable AI humanization, fewer than 4% of AI-labeled abstracts stayed flagged. The same study found light, permitted AI edits flagged 38 to 80% of the time, and concluded detector scores “should not serve as standalone misconduct evidence.”

The academic-integrity risk, stated plainly

Submitting AI-written work as your own breaks most schools’ rules whether or not a detector catches it. Detection is only one way instructors find out: drafts, version history, oral follow-ups and a sudden change of style all count. A humanizer changes none of that.

Undetectable AI’s own ethics page says it has “never, and will never, condone cheating,” and that its moderation team investigates .edu email signups. It argues some students use it to protect themselves against false positives. The arXiv study supports the worry behind that argument, but the fix for a false accusation is your drafts and notes, not a rewrite of your essay by a third party.

There is also a quality cost. GPTZero’s review describes output that is time-consuming to fix on longer texts, so a writer still has to read and correct every paragraph.

Refunds and cancellation: read before paying

The pricing page promises a refund “if anything we produce is flagged as not human.” The terms of service narrow that: a refund of credits applies only if a submission “provably flags as less than 75% human on a reputable AI detector,” requested within 30 days. The help page asks for the document and where it was flagged, and refunds the cost of that generation, not the subscription.

Cancellation has two catches. If you cancel, “you will immediately lose your remaining words.” And outside California and New York, the terms say subscriptions can be cancelled only by emailing support from the account’s address; chargebacks and contact forms do not count. Prior billing periods are not refunded unless the law requires it.

Yearly buyers should also note that the terms do not guarantee the subscription will last the full year if the company stops operating, and say no refund is due in that case.

Who has a legitimate use for it?

The defensible use is editing: a marketer or non-native writer who drafts with AI, is allowed to, and wants text that sounds less generic before rewriting it in their own voice. For that, a general writing assistant often does the same job with fewer strings attached.

If you already pay for Grammarly Premium or use a drafting tool such as Jenni AI or Rytr, compare what those already do before adding a humanizer. For essays, structured outlining such as our argumentative essay prompts helps you write the argument yourself.

Academy data: none of the prompt packs in our library names Undetectable AI; five discuss AI detectors, including the student and write-like-a-human packs.

The verdict

Undetectable AI is cheap, at $9.99 a month or $5 a month billed yearly for 10,000 words, but the product’s main promise is not reliable: results swing from near-total evasion to 100% detected depending on the detector and the test.

It is worth it only for permitted editing work where a missed rewrite costs nothing. Students should skip it: the integrity risk is real, the refund is narrow, and cancelling wipes the remaining words. What would change the answer: consistent independent tests across detectors, or a refund that covers the subscription.
