Is ChatGPT Business worth it in 2026?

Seat prices, what 5, 10 and 25 people cost a year, what the shared workspace adds over Plus, and how the same money compares with Claude Team.

By Louis Corneloup·Updated October 13, 2026

The quick answer

Yes, ChatGPT Business is worth it for a team of two or more that uses ChatGPT most working days. It costs $20 per user a month billed annually, or $25 billed monthly. A 10-seat team pays $2,400 a year on annual billing. That is the same per-seat price as Plus, but the seats share a workspace with admin controls, SAML SSO, MFA and no training on business data by default. Claude Team sells the same annual standard seat, so the choice comes down to the tools your team already uses.

ChatGPT Business is worth it for a team of two or more that uses ChatGPT most working days, at $20 per seat billed annually. Pay monthly and the seat rises to $25. Seat for seat, the annual price matches Plus, so the real question is whether a shared workspace, admin controls and single sign-on are worth having for a small team. For most teams that is yes.

Those prices come from the OpenAI pricing table for ChatGPT plans, which OpenAI publishes on its Codex pricing page and which we checked in October 2026. This page works out what 5, 10 and 25 seats cost a year, what the Business seat adds over Plus, what only Enterprise gets, and how the same seat compares with Claude Team, the closest rival at the same price.

What 5, 10 and 25 seats cost per year

Per-seat prices from each vendor pricing page, checked October 2026. Plain multiplication: seats times price times 12 months. No discounts, credits or taxes.

SeatsChatGPT Business, billed yearlyChatGPT Business, billed monthlyClaude Team Standard, billed yearly
5 seats$1,200 a year$1,500 a year$1,200 a year
10 seats$2,400 a year$3,000 a year$2,400 a year
25 seats$6,000 a year$7,500 a year$6,000 a year

What you get

  • ✓The annual seat rate matches the per-seat price of Plus, with a shared workspace on top.
  • ✓SAML single sign-on and MFA on the Business seat, plus essential admin controls, from two seats up.
  • ✓No training on business data by default, written on the vendor pricing page.
  • ✓ChatGPT credits extend usage past the plan allowance.
  • ✓Codex in the cloud, the CLI and the IDE extension comes with every seat.

The trade-offs

  • ✕The monthly rate is the easy default, and it costs more every year.
  • ✕No custom roles, SCIM, audit logs or analytics dashboard on Business. Those sit in Enterprise, which is quote-only.
  • ✕Usage ranges are estimates, not fixed caps, so a heavy user should plan for ChatGPT credits.
  • ✕Claude Team sells the same standard seat price and a heavier Premium seat, so Business has no price edge at the standard level.

Worth it if…

  • →A team of 2 to 25 people that already runs its daily work in ChatGPT and wants one bill, one workspace and single sign-on.
  • →Developers who want Codex in the cloud, the CLI and the IDE on the same seat as the rest of the team.
  • →A team that can pay annually and wants the lower rate.
  • →Teams handling customer or internal data that need a no-training default stated on the vendor pricing page.

Skip it if…

  • →A solo buyer. Business needs at least two users, so one Plus subscription, billed monthly, is the right plan.
  • →A team that needs SCIM, custom roles or audit logs. Enterprise is the tier, and it is quote-only.
  • →A team that cannot commit to annual billing and would rather not pay the monthly premium on every seat each year.
  • →A team whose daily work already runs in Claude or Microsoft 365. Claude Team’s standard seat costs the same, so the tool your team opens every day should decide it.

What a seat costs, and the monthly trap

OpenAI charges $20 per user per month billed annually and $25 billed monthly, with a minimum of two users. The gap looks small on one seat and grows quickly. Monthly billing costs $60 more per seat per year, which is $600 for a 10-person team and $1,500 for 25.

The annual rate is also the only fair comparison with Plus. A single Plus subscription is priced by the month, so ten Plus accounts cost the same as ten Business seats on annual billing. Business buys the shared workspace for that same money, but only if you commit to annual billing. Monthly billing is the trap, not the seat.

What the Business seat adds over Plus

Each seat includes ChatGPT and Codex, with Codex in the cloud, the command line and the IDE extension. Business adds a dedicated workspace with essential admin controls, SAML single sign-on and multi-factor authentication. It also ships with no training on your business data by default, and it includes ChatGPT credits to extend usage past the plan allowance.

Usage is where Business and Plus look the same. The pricing table gives a Plus seat and a Standard Business seat identical estimates per five hours: 15 to 160 GPT-6.1 Sol messages, or 350 to 3,000 on GPT-6 Luna. Those are estimates, not fixed caps. A developer who runs agents all day should budget credits rather than assume the seat covers that load.

What only Enterprise adds

Several admin features stop at Enterprise and Edu, which are quote-only. Custom roles and workspace role-based access, SCIM user provisioning, enterprise retention and residency controls, an analytics dashboard and analytics API, and a compliance API with audit logs are not part of the Business seat.

If your security reviewer asks for SCIM or audit logs on day one, Business is the wrong tier and the price becomes a sales conversation. For a team of two to 25 people that needs sign-in control and a clear data policy, the Business seat covers those basics without that call.

Claude Team at the same price

Claude Team's Standard seat is also priced at the same annual and monthly rates, so the yearly totals in the table above hold for Claude as well. The Claude pricing page adds a Premium seat at $100 per seat a month billed annually ($125 billed monthly), with five times the usage of a Standard seat, and it takes teams of 2 to 150. Both vendors say they do not train on team content by default.

OpenAI’s pricing table lists one Business seat price and no Premium seat price, and it lists no seat limit for Business. Price alone does not separate the two products at the standard seat. Choose Business if your team already runs its work in ChatGPT and Codex and wants the workspace controls above. Choose Claude Team if the work already runs in Claude, or if a few people need five times the usage of a Standard seat, which Claude sells as a Premium seat. The ChatGPT vs Claude comparison covers the feature side.

How to get value from the seats

An idle seat is the real waste. Teams get value when two or three repeat tasks move into the shared tool: a weekly report, a customer reply template, a meeting summary. Start with the task list, not the seat count, and cut the seat count if the list is short.

Academy data: our ChatGPT business prompt page carries 35 copy-ready prompts as of October 2026. Start there, agree on the three tasks the team will run first, and review usage after a month before adding seats.

The verdict

For a team of two or more that uses ChatGPT most working days, ChatGPT Business is worth it at the annual seat rate. A 10-seat team pays $2,400 a year for a shared workspace with SSO, MFA and admin controls. The same money on individual Plus accounts buys seats with no shared workspace. Pay monthly and the bill rises to $3,000, which is the first thing to fix.

Two honest caveats. If the team needs enterprise governance, Business is the wrong tier and Enterprise needs a sales call. And if the team already works in Claude, the standard seat costs the same, so Claude Team wins on fit. Look at the tools your team opens every day before you look at the price.

Frequently asked questions

How much does ChatGPT Business cost per user?▾

ChatGPT Business costs $20 per user per month billed annually, or $25 per user per month billed monthly. It needs at least two users. OpenAI’s pricing table, checked in October 2026, gives those two prices.

What does a 10-person team pay for ChatGPT Business a year?▾

A 10-person team pays $2,400 a year on annual billing, which is 10 seats at $20 for 12 months. On monthly billing the same team pays $3,000 a year, at $25 a seat.

Is ChatGPT Business worth it compared with Plus?▾

For a team, yes. Business matches the Plus price per seat on annual billing and adds a shared workspace, SAML SSO, MFA, admin controls and no training on business data by default. For one person, Plus is the better buy, because Business needs at least two users.

Is ChatGPT Business cheaper than Claude Team?▾

Not at the standard seat. Both cost $20 per seat a month billed annually and $25 billed monthly. Claude Team also publishes a Premium seat at $100 a month billed annually and caps a team at 150 seats. The OpenAI pricing table lists no seat limit for Business.

Does ChatGPT Business train on company data?▾

OpenAI’s pricing table says Business has no training on your business data by default. Claude Team says the same about its seats. Check each vendor’s data terms before you upload anything sensitive, because a default is not a contract.

Does the ChatGPT Business seat include Codex?▾

Yes. Codex comes with the Business seat in the cloud, the command line and the IDE extension. The OpenAI pricing table estimates usage per five hours as ranges, not fixed caps.
