Is Granola worth it in 2026?
What the free plan covers, what the $14 Business tier adds, and when Otter, Fathom or Notion is the better buy.
The quick answer
Granola is worth it if you spend much of your week in calls and want AI notes you can search later. The free Basic plan costs $0 and includes AI meeting notes, but it keeps only 30 days of meeting history. Business at $14 per user per month, on the monthly list price, removes that limit and adds integrations with Notion, HubSpot and Attio plus API access. Its catch is platform reach: it runs on macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, and the pricing page lists no browser version.
Paying for Granola? Get 10x more out of it.
Step-by-step tutorials for Granola, Claude, Midjourney and many other tools, plus member deals on software. 7-day free trial on the annual plan.
For most individuals, start on the free plan and pay for Business only when the 30-day history limit starts to hurt. Business is $14 per user per month and removes that limit, so it earns its price mainly if you sit in many calls and need older notes.
Granola's pricing page lists three plans, all priced per user per month. Prices on this page are list prices in USD, read on each vendor's pricing page on 10 October 2026.
We set Granola against the three alternatives we compare it with most: Otter, Fathom and Notion.

What you get
- ✓A free plan with AI meeting notes and no stated meeting-count cap, so you can test it on real calls before paying.
- ✓No bot in the call. Granola uses your computer audio, so no recorder joins the meeting.
- ✓$14 per user a month for Business on the monthly list, with unlimited history.
- ✓Business adds integrations with Notion, HubSpot, Attio, Affinity and Zapier, plus API access and MCP.
- ✓Basic lets you opt out of model training at any time.
The trade-offs
- ✕Basic keeps only 30 days of meeting history, so older notes need the Business plan.
- ✕The pricing page shows no annual rate, so the yearly cost is the monthly list times twelve until checkout.
- ✕Only macOS, Windows, iOS and Android are listed, so a browser-only teammate cannot use it.
- ✕Basic AI chat runs on automatic model selection only, and advanced thinking models are a Business feature.
- ✕Enterprise costs $35 per user per month for SSO and admin controls.
Worth it if…
- →You spend several hours a week in calls and want searchable notes rather than a full transcript archive.
- →You live in Notion, HubSpot or Attio and want your notes to land there automatically.
- →You want to try AI meeting notes free for a few weeks before paying anything.
Skip it if…
- →You need meeting history older than 30 days without paying for Business.
- →You need a complete archive of every recording and transcript, where Fathom's free plan is the better place to start.
- →Your team works only in a browser.
- →You need single sign-on, which means the $35 Enterprise tier.
What the free plan actually covers
Basic is a working free tier, not a trial. You get AI meeting notes, AI chat across your meetings, shared folders, custom note templates and multi-language support. You can opt out of model training at any time.
The pricing page states no meeting-count cap and no usage limit on AI notes, so a few weeks of real calls will show whether the tool fits before you pay anything. The catch is history. Basic keeps 30 days of meeting history, so anything older than 30 days is out of reach until you upgrade.
That hurts most if you need to search last quarter's client calls. AI chat on Basic also runs on automatic model selection only, so you cannot pick a model. Business adds access to the advanced AI thinking models and unlimited history.
The $14 Business tier, and the seat math
Business is $14 per user per month on the monthly list, which comes to $168 a seat over a year. The page shows no annual rate, so check the billing screen before you assume a discount.
What the $14 buys beyond history is the integration list: Attio, Notion, HubSpot, Affinity and Zapier, plus MCP access in your other apps, API access and centralized billing for a team. If your notes need to land in HubSpot or Notion, those integrations are most of the value.
For five seats on the monthly list, Granola Business costs $840 a year, or $70 a month. Notion Business, with AI Meeting Notes included, is $20 per member a month, which is $1,200 a year for five on its monthly rate.
Otter Business is $19.99 per user a month billed annually, or $1,199.40 for five. These are not like-for-like, because Granola's annual rate is not shown and Notion includes a full workspace. On the list prices shown, though, Granola's seat is the lowest of the three.
Enterprise at $35 is for SSO and admin control
Enterprise is $35 per user per month. It adds single sign-on, admin controls for sharing and API access, org-wide auto-deletion periods, usage analytics, priority support, and the option to opt your whole team out of model training.
Buy it when your IT or security team requires SSO. If a team only wants shared notes, Business at $14 covers the day-to-day needs for $21 less per seat each month.
How it runs, and where it does not fit
Granola does not join your meeting as a bot. It uses your computer audio and transcribes in the background while you stay present, so no bot appears in the participant list. It runs on macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, and the pricing page lists no browser version.
That platform list is the main limit. A teammate who works only in a browser cannot run Granola.
The product says notes are private by default and easy to share if you choose. Its public copy does not say whether meeting audio is stored after transcription, so check the security and privacy pages before you record client calls under an NDA.
If you only need summaries, try the free Transcript Summarizer first
Academy's own free Transcript Summarizer turns a pasted transcript into a TL;DR, key points, decisions and action items. It needs no login and records nothing.
The tool accepts up to 4,000 characters per paste, so it suits one call or a section of a longer one. Use it to test whether summaries alone are enough before you pay $14 a month for a notetaker.
The verdict
For someone who attends many meetings, Granola is worth starting on the free plan, and worth a $14 seat once the 30-day history limit gets in the way.
Its strengths are no bot in the call and notes you can keep and reuse in Notion or HubSpot. The main risk is platform reach, not price.
Choose another tool when you need a free archive of every recording, or when your team works only in a browser. Notion makes sense only if your team already runs its documents there.
Our verdict: start free, pay for Business when you need older notes, and skip Enterprise unless SSO is a requirement.
