Is Fireflies.ai worth it in 2026?
Where the free plan stops, what the Pro and Business seats add, and how AI credits can quietly raise the bill.
The quick answer
Fireflies.ai is worth paying for on its Pro seat ($10 per seat a month billed annually) if you record calls every week, and on Business ($19 per seat billed annually) once a team needs conversation analytics. The free plan is a test rather than an archive: it gives the whole team 400 minutes of storage, and its unlimited transcription depends on auto-join. The catch the price grid hides is AI credits, because paid plans upgrade automatically when the allowance runs out.

The seat price is only part of the bill: every teammate added to the workspace counts as a seat, and AI credits can move a paid plan to a higher tier mid-cycle. The prices below are list prices read on Fireflies' own pricing page on 10 October 2026.
We set Fireflies against Otter.ai and Granola, the two notetakers we review alongside it. The table uses the list prices we read for both on the same day.

What you get
- ✓8,000 minutes of storage per Pro seat, and unlimited storage on Business.
- ✓Business undercuts Otter Business on annual billing by $0.99 a seat a month.
- ✓Conversation intelligence and team insights for admins on Business, a view the lower tiers do not give.
- ✓The Chrome extension records Google Meet without a bot, on every plan.
- ✓SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliance on every plan.
The trade-offs
- ✕Free storage is 400 minutes for the whole team, roughly six one-hour meetings.
- ✕Unlimited free transcription needs auto-join on, applies only to accounts created on or after 1 September 2026, and falls back to three meetings without it.
- ✕AI credits auto-upgrade on paid plans, so a heavy month can raise the bill without a new seat.
- ✕Recordings stop at 2 hours on Free and Pro, and CRM integrations start at Pro.
- ✕Sign-in is Google or Outlook only, and SSO sits on the Enterprise tier.
Worth it if…
- →You record most of your calls and want summaries, search and follow-up tasks across them on the Pro seat.
- →Your team runs sales or customer calls, and an admin needs team analytics, which starts at Business.
- →You want call notes pushed into a CRM, which the help center puts on the paid tiers.
- →You compare Fireflies with Otter on price and want the lower annual team seat.
Skip it if…
- →You only want a free archive of old calls. Free team storage runs out quickly.
- →You expect the AI features to cost nothing. Credits run out, and paid plans upgrade automatically.
- →Your meetings regularly run past two hours on Free or Pro.
- →Your team needs SSO or HIPAA, which means the Enterprise tier.
What the free plan really covers
The free plan is the right place to test Fireflies, but three limits sit behind the word "unlimited". Storage is the first. Free gives the whole team 400 minutes of storage, and the help center says storage is the total you can keep, not a monthly allowance. Our calculation: that is about 6.7 hours, or roughly six one-hour meetings for an entire team.
The second is transcription. The pricing grid says unlimited transcription with an asterisk, and the tooltip scopes it to shared-bot meetings, the Chrome extension and the mobile app. The help center adds two conditions. Auto-join must be switched on, and the rule applies only to accounts created on or after 1 September 2026. With auto-join off, the Free plan covers three meeting transcriptions.
The third is the recording cap. Free and Pro stop a single recording at 2 hours, so a three-hour workshop gets cut short on any plan below Business.
Pro: the seat for an individual
Pro is the tier that makes Fireflies a daily tool. It costs $10 per seat a month billed annually, or $18 billed monthly. For one person that is $120 a year against $216, a $96 gap. The grid's "save up to 44%" label describes the same difference.
For that seat you get unlimited AI summaries, 8,000 minutes of storage per seat, 720p video capture, topic trackers, sentiment analysis, talk-time analytics and all of Fireflies' integrations. The help center puts app and CRM integrations on the paid tiers, so Pro is the cheapest seat where notes can reach a CRM. Our calculation: 8,000 minutes is about 133 hours of meetings per seat.
The cost the grid leaves out is AI credits. Pro includes 20 AI credits for the whole team. They power features such as Daily Digest and Meeting Prep in the Personal Assistant, voice agents and AskFred on live calls. Transcription is never charged in credits.
Business: conversation intelligence and team seats
Business is for a team that wants to analyze calls, not only keep them. It adds conversation intelligence, team insights for admins, public meeting access, multi-language mode, unlimited storage and 3-hour recordings. Pro already has talk-time analytics, so buy Business when an admin needs to see patterns across reps or accounts.
At list prices, $19 per seat billed annually comes to $1,140 a year for five people. Our calculation: the same five seats on Otter Business billed annually cost $1,199.40, so Fireflies is $59.40 a year cheaper. On monthly billing, five Business seats cost $1,740 a year.
Every teammate added to the workspace counts as a seat. The AI credit allowance is pooled across the team and does not grow with headcount. At 20 seats, Business costs $4,560 a year on annual billing.
AI credits: the auto-upgrade the grid does not show
Each paid plan includes a credit allowance. When a paid team runs out mid-cycle, Fireflies moves it automatically to the next higher credit tier so the features keep working. On annual plans the extra charge is pro-rated across the billing year. You can switch auto-upgrade off under Settings and Billing. Free users do not get an automatic upgrade. They see a paywall.
Add-on packs are priced per month: 50 credits for $5, 200 for $20, 1,000 for $90, 2,500 for $200 and 10,000 for $600. Annual billing is 20 percent lower. Unused credits do not carry over, so a quiet month wastes what you paid for.
Our rule: switch auto-upgrade off on day one, check credit usage in your account settings for two weeks, then decide. A team that stays inside its allowance pays only the seat price.
Security, sign-in and the bot
Fireflies says it encrypts data at rest with 256-bit AES and in transit with 256-bit TLS. SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliance appear on every plan. HIPAA compliance, SSO and SCIM are Enterprise features, priced at $39 per seat a month billed annually.
Sign-in works only with Google or Outlook accounts, which suits individuals but can stall an IT review. Customizing the bot's name costs extra on Pro and Business. If you do not want a bot in the call, the Chrome extension records Google Meet without one, on every plan.
Test it before you pay
Academy's free Transcript Summarizer turns a pasted transcript into key points, decisions and action items, with no login. It takes up to 4,000 characters a paste, so it suits one call or one section of a longer one.
Run a few real transcripts through it first. If the summaries answer your questions, the seat can wait. If you need search across every call and a team view, the paid tiers are the point.
The verdict
For an individual who records calls every week, the Pro seat is worth buying on annual billing. You get unlimited summaries, 8,000 minutes of storage and the integrations.
For a team that wants to analyze calls, the answer is Business, but only once an admin needs the team view. That is the tier where conversation intelligence starts.
Two honest caveats. The free plan is a test, not an archive, and AI credit auto-upgrade can raise a bill without anyone adding a seat. Switch it off before you put a team on the platform.
Our verdict: start on the free plan with auto-join on, buy Pro for individuals who use the summaries every week, and buy Business only when a team needs conversation analytics.
Choose Fireflies for its features rather than its price. Otter's Pro seat is cheaper on annual billing, and Fireflies Business sits only $0.99 a seat below Otter Business.
