Is Kapwing worth it in 2026?

What Pro and Business cost per member, how many subtitled and dubbed clips 1,000 credits buy, what changed when Kapwing moved to credits, and how it compares with CapCut Pro and Descript.

The quick answer

Kapwing Pro is worth it for social media managers and student creators who subtitle and translate short clips every week in a browser. It costs $16 per member a month billed yearly ($192) or $24 billed monthly, with 1,000 credits a month: up to 1,000 minutes of subtitles but only 50 minutes of dubbing. The list price has not changed since 2024, but unlimited storage became 200 GB. There is no free trial and no refund. Dub-heavy users should price Business at $50 or look at CapCut Pro.

Short answer: yes, if subtitles are your main job. Kapwing Pro is $16 a member a month on annual billing ($192 a year) or $24 on monthly billing, a price that is unchanged in every dated archive snapshot of the pricing page since June 2024. Its 1,000 monthly credits cover up to 1,000 minutes of auto-subtitles, enough for hundreds of short clips.

The catch is in the credits. What did change is how the plan is measured: by January 2026 Kapwing replaced fixed minute limits with credits, and Pro’s unlimited cloud storage became a 200 GB cap. Dubbing burns credits 20 times faster than subtitles, so a creator who translates and dubs every clip runs out quickly. Below: the plans in dollars, a clip-count scenario, the price history, user reports and the CapCut and Descript comparison.

What you get

  • ✓Stable price: $16 annual and $24 monthly for Pro in every snapshot since June 2024.
  • ✓Cheap subtitles: 1 credit a minute, so Pro covers up to 1,000 subtitle minutes a month.
  • ✓Browser-based team workspace: shared folders, comments, Brand Kit and custom fonts on Pro.
  • ✓Free tools for paid users: background removal, Smart Cut and stabilization use no credits.

The trade-offs

  • ✕Dubbing is expensive in credits: 20 credits a minute caps Pro at 50 dubbing minutes.
  • ✕Storage is no longer unlimited: Pro dropped from unlimited to a 200 GB cap.
  • ✕No trial, no refund: the refund policy rules out refunds and renewal reminders.
  • ✕Pro cannot buy extra credits: top-ups of 500 for $50 are Business-only.
  • ✕Middling ratings: 3.9 out of 5 from 40 G2 reviews.

Worth it if…

  • →Social media managers who subtitle and resize several clips a week for different platforms.
  • →Small teams that review and edit videos together in a browser.
  • →Teachers and students who add captions or translated subtitles to classroom videos.

Skip it if…

  • →You dub most of your clips; Business or a dubbing-first tool fits better.
  • →You edit long podcasts or interviews, where Descript’s text editing is stronger.
  • →You only need occasional edits and can live with the free plan’s watermark.

What does Kapwing cost in 2026?

As of October 29, 2026, the Kapwing pricing page lists Pro at $16 and Business at $50 per member per month on annual billing, the toggle it shows by default with “Save 33%”. Kapwing’s plan FAQ gives the monthly-billing prices: $24 for Pro and $64 for Business, both billed per member, and works through a 3-person Pro workspace at $72 a month or $576 a year.

Pro removes the watermark and adds 4K exports, projects up to two hours, 6 GB uploads, a Brand Kit with custom fonts, a shared workspace and 200 GB of storage. Business adds voice clones, lip sync, 800 GB of storage and the only way to buy more credits: 500 extra credits cost $50 and vanish at the monthly refresh. Enterprise adds SSO, invoicing and custom credit volumes at a quoted price.

Two terms matter before you pay. Kapwing does not offer free trials of paid plans, per its pricing FAQ, and its refund policy says it does not refund subscriptions, and does not send email payment reminders before renewal. The plan FAQ adds that switching from annual to monthly means cancelling and waiting out the term. Test the free plan first.

How many clips do 1,000 credits buy?

Kapwing’s credits guide sets the exchange rates: auto-subtitles cost 1 credit a minute, subtitle translation 2 credits a minute, Clean Audio 2 credits a minute, lip sync 30 credits a minute and dubbing 10 credits per 30 seconds, which is 20 credits a minute. Every job costs at least 1 credit, and an AI image uses 4 to 6 credits. Background removal, Smart Cut, stabilization and Find Scenes do not use credits for paid users; resizing a video costs 4 credits.

Our arithmetic for a social media manager posting one-minute clips: subtitles only, Pro covers 1,000 clips a month. Subtitles plus one translated subtitle track costs 3 credits a clip, so about 333 clips. Subtitles, a translation and an AI dub in one language cost 23 credits a clip, so about 43 clips a month. A student creator who subtitles 30 TikToks and dubs five of them uses about 130 credits and has plenty left.

Credits do not roll over. They refresh on the first of the month and leftovers are removed, so a quiet month does not bank capacity for a busy one. Failed jobs get their credits back automatically; a generation that works but disappoints does not.

How has Kapwing’s pricing changed?

The prices have not moved. The June 2, 2024, May 23, 2025, January 16, 2026 and July 8, 2026 snapshots all list Pro at $16 a month billed annually or $24 billed monthly, and Business at $50 or $64, the same figures as today.

What you get for that price did change. In June 2024 and May 2025 Pro was sold on fixed limits: 300 minutes of auto-subtitles and 300 minutes of translation a month, plus unlimited cloud storage. By January 2026 the plan was 1,000 credits a month, which allows up to 1,000 subtitle minutes but makes translation and dubbing draw on the same pool. Storage became a cap: 100 GB for Pro and 500 GB for Business in the July 2026 snapshot, 200 GB and 800 GB on today’s page.

The free plan shrank. In 2024 and 2025 it included 10 minutes of auto-subtitles every month; the January 2026 snapshot showed 10 credits a month, and Kapwing’s credits guide, updated September 10, 2026, now describes the Free plan as 10 credits for the lifetime of the account.

What do users say about Kapwing?

Independent ratings are modest. On G2, Kapwing holds 3.9 out of 5 from 40 reviews, per Toolradar’s aggregate as of September 17, 2026. Since paid plans cannot be refunded, the free plan is the safer place to form your own view.

Price is the oldest complaint. In an Ask HN thread of April 27, 2022, the poster listed Veed.io, Kapwing and Clipchamp as “ok, but they all have expensive pricing: at least 12$/mo for no watermark.” A commenter in the same thread used Kapwing “for quick demos, bug-reporting videos and such,” the light, fast edits it is built for.

Kapwing keeps shipping for the AI workflow. A Show HN post of October 21, 2026 introduced Kapwing’s MCP server for dubbing video and audio files from ChatGPT, which fits its push toward dubbing and translation. Those are the most credit-hungry features on the plan, so check that the 50 dubbing minutes in Pro match your volume before you build a workflow around them.

Kapwing vs CapCut Pro and Descript

CapCut’s pricing page listed Pro at $19.99 a month on monthly billing on October 29, 2026, with 1,200 monthly AI credits and 1 TB of storage, and a limited-time Black Friday promotion running, so check the checkout price. On monthly billing CapCut Pro is cheaper than Kapwing Pro’s $24; Kapwing’s $16 annual rate is cheaper than both. CapCut’s credits are a different currency, so compare on your own clips rather than credit counts. Our CapCut Pro review covers its plans in depth.

Descript’s Hobbyist plan costs the same $16 a month billed annually or $24 monthly, with 10 media hours and 400 AI credits a month and text-based editing that suits podcasts and talking-head video. Kapwing is the simpler choice for fast captions, resizing and team review in a browser. For long recordings cut into short clips, see our Opus Clip review.

Academy data: none of the prompt packs in our library names Kapwing, but short-form packs such as TikTok script prompts and YouTube Shorts prompts cover the scripting step before a clip reaches the editor.

Annual or monthly: the break-even

Our arithmetic at list prices. Annual Pro costs $192 up front; monthly Pro costs $24, so the annual plan only pays off if you would otherwise stay subscribed for more than eight months. A student who needs Kapwing for one four-month semester pays $96 on monthly billing, half the annual price.

A three-person social team on annual Pro pays $576 a year. Moving that team to annual Business costs $1,800, so upgrade only when dubbing or lip sync volume, not subtitles, is what runs out.

The verdict

Kapwing Pro is worth $16 a month on annual billing for anyone whose weekly job is captioning, translating and resizing short clips: 1,000 credits cover far more subtitle minutes than most creators use, and the price has held since 2024. Pay $24 monthly instead if you need it for eight months or less.

It is a weaker deal for dubbing. Fifty dubbing minutes a month runs out fast, extra credits require the $50 Business plan, and nothing is refundable, so test on the free plan first. If the free plan’s 10 lifetime credits are not enough to judge, CapCut Pro at $19.99 monthly or Descript at the same $16 is the comparison to run.
