Is Photoroom worth it in 2026?
Plan prices on both billing options, the exports and AI credits each plan gives, and what the free plan leaves out, worked through for a seller who edits 200 product photos a month.
The quick answer
Photoroom Pro is worth it for a seller who edits 200 product photos a month, at $89.99 a year billed yearly or $12.99 a month billed monthly (US prices, 19 October 2026). Pro's 1,000 exports a month cover that seller, while the Free plan is for personal, non-commercial use only. The core cutout and resize tools use none of Pro's 8,000 AI credits. Pro leaves out the Video Generator and the Shopify integration, which start at Max ($249.99 a year billed yearly, $34.99 billed monthly), and 4K output, which starts at Ultra. The catches: caps reset monthly even on yearly plans, credits do not roll over, and Photoroom's pages disagree on the Free export allowance.

Photoroom Pro is worth paying for if you edit product photos for a shop every month. The Free plan cannot do that job: Photoroom limits free accounts to personal, non-commercial use, and its own pages disagree on how many exports Free allows.
Every Photoroom figure below comes from Photoroom's own pricing page, help center and blog, read on 19 October 2026 in the US view, in dollars. Academy data: our prompt library holds 4 product and background photo packs with 106 prompts (16 for product photography, 30 for Amazon listings, 30 for white backgrounds and 30 for black backgrounds, of which 10 and 5 sit in product categories), none written for Photoroom itself, so every Photoroom figure here comes from Photoroom's own pages and any arithmetic is ours.

How much does Photoroom cost, yearly or monthly?
Photoroom sells three self-serve plans, Pro, Max and Ultra, plus a custom Enterprise contract. The pricing page opens on its yearly toggle and prints each price as a monthly figure, so read it as yearly billing divided by twelve: Pro $7.50, Max $20.99 and Ultra $82.50 a month, billed yearly. The yearly charges in the plan data behind the page are $89.99, $249.99 and $990. Billed monthly, the plans cost $12.99, $34.99 and $99 a month.
Yearly billing saves 42% on Pro, 40% on Max and 17% on Ultra against twelve months of monthly billing (our arithmetic from $155.88, $419.88 and $1,188). Photoroom's pricing FAQ says it refunds customers up to one week after purchase.
One figure needs care. The Max card's $20.99 times twelve is $251.88, but the yearly charge in the plan data works out at $20.83 a month, and a Photoroom comparison article quotes $251.88. This page budgets from the plan data, and the checkout total is the final word.
These are web prices in US dollars. Mobile app payments run through Apple or Google, the page lists no store prices, and the AI credit amount can vary by country or region.
Is the Photoroom free plan enough?
Photoroom has a Free plan, and it is built for personal use. Its plans article describes limited features, lower AI credit and export limits, and personal, non-commercial use only. For anyone selling products, that limit decides the question before any export count does.
The export allowance is where Photoroom's pages disagree. Its export limit article, updated 16 July 2026, lists 100 exports a month for Free. Its Picsart comparison article, dated 25 February 2026, says 250 a month with no watermark. The pricing page prints no Free figures, and the help articles on plans, credits and exports do not mention a watermark, so check your own account.
Free also has a daily cap on six no-credit utilities (Background Remover, AI Expand, Image Enhancer, preset AI Shadows, Resize and Retouch). The daily usage limits article calls it "much lower" than the paid cap and gives no number. No Free AI-credit figure is printed either.
Does Photoroom Pro cover 200 product photos a month?
Take an Etsy or Shopify seller who edits 200 product photos a month (our assumption). Photoroom counts each saved image as one export, so 200 photos use 200 exports, and a batch of 10 counts as 10. Free misses twice: it is personal use only, and 100 exports a month would stop at photo 100. Pro is the cheapest plan on Photoroom's pricing page that covers the job, with 1,000 exports, or five saved versions of each photo.
Over a year that is 2,400 photos, so Pro's yearly charge comes to about 3.75 cents a photo, or 6.5 cents a photo at $155.88 for twelve months billed monthly (our arithmetic).
AI credits are the second meter. Photoroom lists Background Remover, Retouch, preset AI Shadows, AI Fill, Expand and Resize, and Image Enhancer as core tools with no credit cost, within fair use. Generation spends credits, and Photoroom prints each tool's maximum generations, not a credit price list. Dividing Pro's 8,000 credits by those numbers gives 2 credits for a basic AI background and 8 for an HD one (our arithmetic), so 200 HD backgrounds use 1,600 credits, 20% of the pool.
What Pro leaves out matters for some sellers. Its card marks the Video Generator and 4K video and image resolution as not included, and the plan table adds the Shopify integration. Photoroom's Shopify article lists publishing, downloading and exporting from its connector as Max or Ultra features. A Shopify seller who wants the connector budgets for Max, and one who exports files by hand can stay on Pro.
What do Max and Ultra add over Pro?
Max is the plan Photoroom labels "Most popular". It gives 3,000 exports and 25,000 AI credits a month and adds the Video Generator and the Shopify integration. If every credit went to video, Photoroom's table shows up to 50 generations on Max and 150 on Ultra, about 500 credits each (our arithmetic). On yearly billing Max costs $160 a year more than Pro, 2.8 times the price for about three times the exports and credits.
Ultra adds 4K video and image resolution, 10,000 exports and 75,000 credits, from $990 a year billed yearly or $99 billed monthly. It also comes in larger sizes, up to 750,000 credits and 100,000 exports at $9,900 a year billed yearly. Pro's AI Fashion Models stop at 1K, with 2K from Max and 4K from Ultra.
Enterprise has no published price. Photoroom describes an annual contract with one shared usage balance across its apps and API.
What are the catches before you pay?
Caps run on a monthly clock, also on yearly plans. The export limit article says a yearly plan's exports renew monthly, and the AI credits article says credits expire at the end of each cycle with no carryover. At the export limit Photoroom warns you at 80% and 100%, then pauses exports until the next cycle unless you upgrade. An upgrade takes effect at once and restarts your billing cycle.
A plan belongs to a Space, not to a person. Pro, Max and Ultra list up to 50 seats, exports are shared by everyone in the Space, and each further Space needs its own plan.
The API is a separate product with its own API pricing page. The credits article describes a fixed monthly image quota billed per call, and the pricing page says API and MCP usage sits outside a plan's export allowance. This review does not price it.
Photoroom or Canva Pro, Firefly and Krea?
Photoroom's plans are built around product images: exports counted per saved file, batch processing, AI backgrounds and a Shopify connector. Our Canva Pro review covers a general design editor whose paid plan includes a background remover. Our Adobe Firefly and Krea reviews cover image generators, a different job from restaging photos you already have. Each review carries its own prices.

The verdict
Photoroom Pro is worth it for a seller who edits product photos every month. Two hundred photos fit inside its 1,000 exports at about 3.75 cents a photo on yearly billing, one HD AI background each uses a fifth of its credits, and the core tools cost no credits.
Move to Max when you need the Video Generator, the Shopify integration or more than 1,000 exports a month, and skip paid plans if your edits are personal. Before you pay, check three things in your own account: the Free export allowance, the credit amount for your region, and the Max checkout total.
