Is ProWritingAid worth it in 2026?
What Premium costs billed yearly or monthly, how the refund window and the lifetime price moved, and who should skip it.
The quick answer
As of October 25, 2026, Premium costs $10 a month billed yearly ($120) or $30 billed monthly, so pay for it if you check documents longer than 500 words, and skip the $399 lifetime plan unless you will use Premium for 3.3 years. Refunds run for three days, a window that every archived copy in the price history below from June 2024 onward prints.

ProWritingAid cut its refund window from 14 days to 3 days between the archived copies of its pricing page dated January 19, 2024 and June 20, 2024. The live pricing page still gives three days from purchase, for yearly and lifetime plans. Monthly plans get no refund.
The list prices match in every archived copy listed below except one December 2025 promotion. As of October 25, 2026 the pricing page prints Premium and Premium Pro at the monthly, yearly and one-time prices in the table below, with the refund and word-limit terms in its FAQ.
Free, Premium and Premium Pro as printed on the pricing page
As of October 25, 2026. Yearly prices are per month, billed yearly.
| Feature | Free | Premium | Premium Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly billing | $0 a month | $30 a month | $36 a month |

What you get
- ✓Premium is $24 a year less than Grammarly Pro on yearly billing, and the same price on monthly billing.
- ✓Unlimited line editing report runs and Rephrases on Premium, against 2 runs per line editing report a day, on 500 words, and 10 Rephrases a day on the free plan.
- ✓Premium plans handle “documents of any length,” according to the pricing page FAQ.
- ✓The lifetime price printed the same in every archived copy listed here, except the December 2025 promotion.
The trade-offs
- ✕Refunds run for three days on yearly and lifetime plans, and monthly plans get none.
- ✕One Trustpilot reviewer dated October 14, 2026 says a refund request never registered, which matters on a three-day window.
- ✕Toolradar’s tool page, updated October 14, 2026, prints the entry price as “From $10/mo, billed monthly”. The $10 is the yearly rate, not the monthly one.
Worth it if…
- →You check manuscripts or long documents past the free plan’s 500-word suggestion limit.
- →You will pay yearly at $120, and you accept a three-day refund window in exchange.
- →You want Premium Pro’s higher Chapter Critique and Sparks limits, at $144 a year on yearly billing.
- →You expect to use Premium for 3.3 years or more and want the lifetime plan.
Skip it if…
- →You mainly fix spelling, grammar and punctuation in short pieces, which the free plan already covers.
- →You want generative AI text at volume, such as the 2,000 monthly prompts Grammarly Pro lists.
- →You expect to use it for four months or less, since four months of monthly billing already cost as much as a full year.
- →You may need a refund on a monthly plan, because monthly plans get none.
How has ProWritingAid’s price changed?
January 19, 2024. Premium printed $30 a month billed monthly, $10 a month billed yearly ($120) and $399 one-time. Premium Pro printed $36, $12 billed yearly ($144) and $699 one-time. The paid plan lines carried a “14-day money back guarantee” (archive, January 19, 2024).
June 20, 2024. The same prices, with the guarantee now printed as “3-day money back guarantee” (archive, June 20, 2024). The copies dated March 9, 2025 and August 6, 2025 print the same prices and the three-day line.
December 2, 2025. A Cyber Monday banner reads “50% off yearly and lifetime plans.” Premium showed $5 a month billed yearly ($60) and $199.50 one-time. Premium Pro showed $6 a month billed yearly ($72) and $349.50 one-time. Monthly prices stayed the same (archive, December 2, 2025).
October 5, 2026. The figures are back at the January 2024 levels, with the three-day guarantee. The line “Write and edit like an expert. No word limits.” printed under Premium in the 2024 and 2025 copies is gone from this one, and from the live page.
Monthly prices did not change in any copy listed here. Yearly and lifetime prices changed during the December 2025 promotion. The refund window was 14 days in the January 2024 capture and 3 days in every later capture listed here, through October 5, 2026.
What do users say about ProWritingAid?
Toolradar combines G2 and Capterra into 4.6 out of 5 from 546 reviews, as of September 17, 2026. G2 gives 4.5 from 49 reviews and Capterra gives 4.7 from 497. Trustpilot’s ProWritingAid listing shows 4.2 out of 5 as of October 25, 2026, below both.
Two recent Trustpilot reviews complain about refunds and rewrites. One, dated October 14, 2026, says: “The refund never came, and when I asked where it was they told me no refund request had ever been received.” Another, dated October 22, 2026, says: “Worst of all, the suggested rewrites end up removing the half of the sentence after the rewrite.”
Academy data: of the 1,777 prompt packs in our library as of October 25, 2026, 70 have “writing” in their URL slug, and none names ProWritingAid.
On Hacker News, a commenter in a thread about Grammarly wrote on December 18, 2024: “ProWritingAid is another plugin that was awfully buggy.” (the thread).
Premium against Grammarly Pro, in dollars
Grammarly’s Pro page, as of October 25, 2026, prints Free at $0 a month with 100 AI prompts. Pro is $12 per member per month billed annually, or $30 billed monthly, with 2,000 AI prompts a month.
On monthly billing the two cost the same. On yearly billing Premium costs $120 a year against $144 for one Grammarly Pro member, a $24 gap. Premium Pro billed yearly matches Grammarly Pro at $144.
These are different products. Grammarly Pro sells generative AI prompts, while ProWritingAid sells editing reports, Rephrases and story tools. Compare them on the job you need done, not on price alone.
What the free plan and Premium limit
The pricing page’s FAQ says: “With a free account, you will only receive suggestions for 500 words at a time.” It adds that Premium and Premium Pro handle “documents of any length.”
Free also gives 2 runs per line editing report a day, on 500 words of text, plus 10 Rephrases a day, 3 Sparks a day and 3 Creative Nudges a day. Premium adds unlimited line editing report runs and unlimited Rephrases, with 1 Chapter Critique and 9 Creative Nudges a day. The FAQ says Premium Pro brings “higher usage limits for extended editing features, including Chapter Critique, Creative Nudges, and Sparks.”
Lifetime and refund terms
The FAQ says: “Our lifetime licenses are a one-time payment, so once purchased, you will not be charged again.” Premium’s $399 lifetime price costs the same as 3.3 years of Premium billed yearly. Premium Pro’s $699 equals 4.9 years of its $144 yearly plan.
On refunds, the FAQ asks buyers to “please contact us within three days of purchase” on a yearly or lifetime plan. Monthly plans get no refund. One Trustpilot reviewer, dated October 14, 2026, says the company had no record of a refund request.
The verdict
Pay for Premium on yearly billing, at $10 a month billed yearly ($120), if you check long documents. It runs $24 a year below Grammarly Pro, and the free plan’s 500-word suggestion limit is the constraint that matters. Premium Pro at $12 a month billed yearly ($144) is worth the extra $24 a year if you need its higher Chapter Critique and Sparks limits, and not otherwise.
Skip the lifetime plan unless you are sure you will use Premium for 3.3 years. The refund window is three days, and the lifetime price held in every copy listed here outside the December 2025 promotion. What would change this: a repeat of that half-price offer would cut Premium’s lifetime price to $199.50, about 1.7 years of the yearly plan, and at that price a multi-year writer should take a serious look.
