Is Superwhisper worth it in 2026?
Pro’s yearly cost against Wispr Flow and Apple’s Dictation, the privacy gap for cloud models, with prices checked in October 2026.
The quick answer
Superwhisper’s free plan lists no word cap, so most people should start there. Pro costs $8.49 a month on the monthly tab and adds your own AI API keys, cloud models, and audio and video file transcription. Its biggest strength is price: Pro is cheaper than Wispr Flow Pro on monthly billing. Its biggest catch is privacy. The company says local transcription keeps your data on your device, but its privacy page does not say what happens to audio sent to a cloud model.

Short answer: start on the free plan, which costs $0 and lists no word cap, and pay for Pro at $8.49 a month only when you need cloud models, your own AI keys or file transcription. Superwhisper dictates into any app on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, and it works offline.
This page covers what each plan includes, what Pro costs over a year, how it compares with Wispr Flow’s pricing and Apple’s built-in Dictation, and what Superwhisper’s privacy page does and does not promise. We checked the plan lines and prices on Superwhisper’s homepage on October 10, 2026. The arithmetic is ours and is labelled where it appears.

What you get
- ✓A free plan with no listed word cap, covering voice-to-text in any app and 100+ languages.
- ✓Pro is cheaper than Wispr Flow Pro on monthly billing, with cloud models and file transcription included.
- ✓Works offline, so dictation does not depend on Wi-Fi.
- ✓One Pro licence works on every device you own, according to its FAQ.
- ✓A 30-day refund on every plan, with no questions asked.
The trade-offs
- ✕The privacy page was last updated on June 19, 2024, and it says nothing about audio sent to a cloud model.
- ✕Its own FAQ says Intel Macs work best with cloud models, and cloud models are only on Pro.
- ✕The Yearly and Lifetime options carry labels, and this page quotes no vendor total for either, so confirm the cheapest route on the tab yourself.
- ✕Team billing and access control sit behind an Enterprise quote with no published price.
- ✕The free plan’s “no cap” is a homepage listing, not a written allowance, so it can change.
Worth it if…
- →You dictate most workdays and keep hitting Wispr Flow’s 2,000-word weekly cap, since Superwhisper’s free plan lists no cap.
- →You want cloud models, your own AI keys or file transcription, and you have checked the cloud privacy question.
- →You work across a Mac, an iPhone and a Windows PC, and want one app on all of them.
- →You want a monthly plan below Wispr’s monthly rate, with a 30-day refund to test it.
Skip it if…
- →You dictate a few messages a week, which Apple’s Dictation or the free plan covers.
- →You own an Intel Mac and need offline dictation that runs well.
- →You dictate client, medical or financial material and have not read the terms of the cloud model you would use.
- →You need team billing and admin controls now and cannot wait for an Enterprise quote.
The free plan: no listed cap, and where it falls short
The Free plan costs $0 and covers voice-to-text in any app, meeting recording and transcription, 100+ languages, unlimited use of Whisper models, custom prompt control and email support. The homepage lists no word or minute limit on it, and that is the main reason to try it first. Wispr Flow’s free plan caps desktop dictation at 2,000 words a week, which one long voice note can use up.
The weak spot is the models. Free runs the local Whisper models only, and cloud models are a Pro feature. Superwhisper’s own FAQ says Intel Macs work best with cloud models and that offline models run really well only on Apple Silicon. So an Intel Mac owner on the free plan gets only the local models, which is the weaker setup on that hardware.
There is also a trial. You can try Pro features free for 3,000 words, after which the free features stay free. At an assumed pace of 150 words a minute, which is our assumption and not a vendor figure, 3,000 words is about 20 minutes of speech. That is enough to test the cloud models and not enough to judge a month of real work.
Pro: what it buys and what a year really costs
Pro adds your own AI API keys, unlimited cloud and local AI models, translation from any language to English, transcription of audio and video files, and priority support. Billed monthly, a full year costs $101.88, which is our arithmetic on the Monthly tab price.
The Yearly tab is labelled “2 months free”. If it bills ten monthly payments, as that label implies, a year costs $84.90. That is our arithmetic on the label, so check the exact yearly charge on the tab before you buy. The Lifetime tab is labelled “Top choice”, but this page quotes no lifetime price, so check that tab before you choose.
Three terms make Pro easier to buy. One Pro licence works on as many of your devices as you like, according to the FAQ, so a Mac and an iPhone can share one purchase. Students get 40% off the monthly price, which works out to about $5.09 a month on our arithmetic. Every plan carries a 30-day refund, with no questions asked, so you can test Pro on real work before the money is spent.
Wispr Flow Pro: the same job at a higher price
Wispr Flow is the closest rival, and the one buyers search for next to Superwhisper. Its Pro plan is $12 a user a month billed yearly, or $15 billed monthly, with unlimited dictation. Our arithmetic gives $144 a year on annual billing and $180 on monthly. Superwhisper Pro on its Monthly tab comes to $101.88 a year, which is $42.12 less than Wispr’s annual plan and $78.12 less than its monthly one.
Price is not the whole comparison. Wispr Pro puts team tools inside the seat price: a shared dictionary and snippets, a team workspace, consolidated billing and team usage analytics. Superwhisper keeps centralized billing and access control on its Enterprise tier, which has no published price. A solo buyer saves money by choosing Superwhisper. A small team that wants one bill and a shared dictionary may find Wispr simpler, even at the higher seat price.
The privacy question for cloud models
Superwhisper’s privacy page is clear about the local side. It says transcription happens on your device, that user data is not used to train AI models, and that data is not retained on Superwhisper servers. The page was last updated on June 19, 2024, more than two years before this review.
The gap is cloud models. The page describes local processing and says there is no need for data transmission in that case. It does not mention cloud models, and it does not say what happens to audio sent to one. For a Pro user who picks a cloud model, that is the question that matters most. Before you dictate client names, medical details or unreleased financials through one, read the terms of the model provider you choose.
Wispr’s privacy page is more specific about what it stores by default. Audio is discarded once it is transcribed unless you turn on Dictation cloud storage, and a setting under Settings, then Data and Privacy, stops training on your speech. Wispr publishes no retention period for stored audio, so neither company lets you skip reading the fine print.
Apple’s built-in Dictation: the alternative to test first
If you use a Mac and dictate only now and then, Apple’s Dictation may be enough. You turn it on under System Settings, then Keyboard, then Dictation. Apple’s help page says you can dictate text of any length without a timeout, and that dictation stops when no speech is detected for 30 seconds. The page lists no price, and language support depends on your region.
Superwhisper earns its Pro price over Apple’s tool in three places: cloud models, file transcription, and one app across Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. If you need none of those, Apple’s Dictation and the free Superwhisper plan cover most dictation work between them, and neither needs a subscription to try.
The verdict
For a solo dictator, start on Superwhisper’s free plan and move to Pro only when you need cloud models or file transcription. Pro on its Monthly tab is cheaper than Wispr Flow Pro on monthly billing, and the free plan lists no cap, which is the reason to test it first. For a Mac user who dictates now and then, Apple’s built-in Dictation, which needs no subscription, is the place to begin.
Two checks before you pay. If you dictate sensitive material, read the terms of any cloud model you plan to use, since Superwhisper’s privacy page does not cover them. Then confirm the yearly and lifetime totals on the tabs, because this page quotes only the Monthly price. If your work needs one bill and a shared dictionary across a team, Wispr Flow Pro is the simpler buy, even at the higher seat price.
Better alternatives?
If it is not the right fit, these are worth a look.
Wispr Flow
Pro is $12 a user a month billed yearly, or $15 monthly, with unlimited dictation and team billing. The better fit for a team that wants one bill.
Apple Dictation (Mac)
Built into macOS, with no timeout on length and a stop after 30 seconds of silence. No price on Apple’s help page, and language support depends on region.
