AI Tool Review

Is Tana worth it in 2026?

Tana split into a meeting platform and a separate notes app. What each plan costs, how the prices moved, what users say about the learning curve, and how it compares with Granola and Notion.

The quick answer

Tana is worth it for knowledge workers who live in meetings and want the notes to turn into filed work automatically. The new Tana meeting platform charges $20 a user a month billed yearly for Pro, an early-bird rate against a $30 list price. The notes app people knew as Tana is now Tana Outliner, with Plus at $8 and Pro at $14 a month billed yearly. Both have a steep setup curve. Granola at $14 is the simpler meeting-notes choice.

Short answer: Tana Pro is worth $20 a month on yearly billing for people who spend most of the week in calls, but not at its $30 list price if all you need is a transcript. In May 2026 the company split Tana into two products: the new Tana, an agentic meeting platform, and Tana Outliner, the supertag-based notes app most reviews describe, now priced from $8 a month billed yearly.

So the buying question has two answers. Below are both price ladders in dollars, how the plans and student prices changed since 2025 in dated archive snapshots, what users say about Tana’s learning curve, and what a year costs against Granola and a Notion setup.

What you get

  • ✓Low-risk trial: 30 days without a card, then a 60-day refund window on yearly Pro.
  • ✓Meetings become work: a botless agent plus integrations and MCP file follow-ups.
  • ✓Cheap outliner tier: Tana Outliner Plus costs $8 a month billed yearly.
  • ✓Student discount: Outliner Pro falls to $84 a year, down from $120 in 2025.

The trade-offs

  • ✕Early-bird pricing: Pro’s $20 rate sits against a $30 list price and no end date on the pricing page.
  • ✕Steep setup: supertags and agents take hours to configure before they pay off.
  • ✕Two products, one name: reviews and tutorials often describe the Outliner, not the new Tana.
  • ✕Few ratings on the new app: the new Tana iPhone app had no App Store ratings yet.
  • ✕Top-ups are non-refundable: extra AI credits cannot be returned.

Worth it if…

  • →Managers and founders in 15 or more calls a week who want follow-ups filed automatically.
  • →Teams that already use Linear, Jira, HubSpot or GitHub and want meetings to update them.
  • →Students and researchers who want a structured outliner at the $84 student Pro rate.

Skip it if…

  • →You only need meeting transcripts and summaries; Granola costs less.
  • →Your team already pays for Notion Business with AI Meeting Notes.
  • →You will not spend a few hours setting up supertags and workflows.

What does Tana cost in 2026?

As of October 29, 2026, the Tana pricing page shows the yearly toggle by default and lists Pro at $20 per user a month with an early-bird badge and the $30 list price struck through. Pro covers unlimited hosted meetings, a botless meeting agent for Zoom, Teams and Google Meet, “20× more AI than the free plan”, integrations such as HubSpot, Jira, Linear and GitHub, and full MCP access. Business starts at $35 per user a month and adds SSO, audit logs, EU storage and a choice of EU or US inference.

The terms are friendlier than most. Tana gives a 30-day free trial without a card, and the yearly plan comes with a 60-day refund window. If you run out of AI, top-up credits never expire, but credit purchases are non-refundable except where the law requires. The free plan’s five meetings a month are enough to judge the meeting agent before paying.

Tana Outliner is priced separately. On yearly billing, which saves 22% per the page, Plus is $8 a month with 2,000 AI credits and Pro is $14 a month with 5,000, around 22 meetings by the FAQ’s estimate. Students, academics and NGOs get 50% off: Plus $48 a year and Pro $84 a year. Top-up credits on Outliner last 12 months.

How has Tana’s pricing changed?

The product lineup changed twice in 2026. Until early 2026, tana.inc sold the outliner: the January 25, 2026 snapshot lists Free, Plus and a Pro plan “previously ‘Core’”. By the June 25, 2026 snapshot, tana.inc sold the new meeting product instead, with Pro at $20 early bird ($30 list) and a Max plan at $80 early bird ($120 list) per user a month. Today’s page keeps Pro at the same $20 and $30 but drops Max, and Business moved from a custom price to “from $35”.

The outliner got cheaper for students. The May 17, 2025 snapshot listed the student price of Plus at $8 a month or $72 a year and Pro at $12 a month or $120 a year. The January 2026 snapshot and today’s Outliner page both list Plus at $48 a year and Pro at $84 a year, a 30% cut on student Pro. Credit allowances are the same in January 2026 and today: 500 on Free, 2,000 on Plus and 5,000 on Pro.

The early-bird badge is the figure to watch. The pricing page gives no end date for the $20 rate, so plan on paying the $30 list price at renewal and treat the early-bird rate as limited-time.

What do users say about Tana?

Ratings are thin because the meeting product is new. On the US App Store, Tana Outliner averaged 4.0 stars from 50 ratings as of October 29, 2026, while the new Tana iPhone app had no ratings yet. On G2, Tana holds 4.5 out of 5 from 37 reviews, per Toolradar’s aggregate as of September 3, 2026.

The learning curve is the oldest theme. In a January 2023 thread on the Outliner Software forum, one user wrote that “to get anything out of it, you need to spend time setting it up to meet your needs,” and another called it “a fascinatingly precise instrument.” Supertags reward that setup, but the effort comes before the payoff.

Lock-in is the second worry. A Hacker News commenter leaning into Tana in October 2025 wrote that “it would really suck if this tool goes away.” Tana’s pricing FAQ says your data stays accessible after you downgrade or cancel and can be exported, and Outliner exports to Markdown or JSON on every plan.

Tana Pro vs Granola and Notion AI

Granola’s pricing page lists Business at $14 per user per month with unlimited meeting notes and history, and a free Basic plan with limited history. Twelve months at that rate is $168 by our arithmetic, $72 less than Tana Pro’s early-bird year and $192 less than its list-price year. Granola takes notes; Tana Pro is built to turn the meeting into tickets, CRM updates and follow-ups through its agents and MCP.

Notion bundles AI Meeting Notes into its Business plan; check the current price on Notion’s site, and see our Notion AI review. A knowledge worker who already pays for Notion may get most of the value without a new tool. One who wants an outliner plus meeting capture can pair Granola with Tana Outliner Plus: $168 plus $96, or $264 a year, against $240 for Tana Pro alone on the early-bird rate.

Academy data: of the eight meeting-focused prompt packs in our library, none names Tana; Claude meeting notes prompts and ChatGPT meeting minutes prompts cover the summarising step Tana automates.

Is the setup time worth it?

Tana’s value comes from structure: supertags that turn a note into a task, a person or a project, and agents that file work from meetings. That structure has to be built, and forum users have described the setup effort since 2023. Count the hours of a first setup as part of the price, next to the $240 early-bird year.

The payoff comes from repetition. Someone in 15 or more calls a week has many chances a week to earn that time back when follow-ups file themselves. Someone in three calls a week gets most of the benefit from a plain notetaker. Use the 30-day trial to build one real workflow, such as meeting to Linear ticket, before you pay.

The verdict

Tana Pro is worth $20 a month billed yearly if your calendar is full and you want each meeting to end with tickets, CRM notes and follow-ups already filed. The 30-day free trial and 60-day refund window on yearly billing make it a low-risk test. At the $30 list price, or for fewer than a handful of calls a week, Granola at $14 gives you the notes for less.

For notes and outlining rather than meetings, the right product is Tana Outliner, from $8 a month billed yearly, or $48 a year for students on Plus. If Tana ends the early-bird rate without adding more to Pro, the meeting product becomes harder to justify against cheaper notetakers.
