Is WellSaid worth it in 2026?

Starter and Pro on monthly and annual billing, the downloaded minutes each one includes, and what two hours or ten hours of narration cost per finished minute, read on wellsaid.io on 20 October 2026.

By Louis Corneloup·Updated October 21, 2026

The quick answer

WellSaid’s pricing page, read on 20 October 2026, lists Pro at $49 a month billed monthly or $33 a month billed annually, and Starter at $19 a month billed monthly or $10 a month billed annually. It is worth paying for if your narration fits a minute cap: Pro, the first plan that covers two hours (120 minutes) a month, costs $0.408 per downloaded minute billed monthly and $0.275 billed annually. Starter is the first plan with full commercial rights, and the free Trial allows 3 downloaded minutes a month without them. The catches: minutes reset every billing cycle and do not roll over, WellSaid says subscription payments are non-refundable, and neither its pricing page nor its add-on help article lists what extra minutes cost. Our ElevenLabs and Speechify reviews cover the other voice options.

WellSaid is worth paying for when you publish narration and your volume fits a downloaded-minute allowance, because retakes are unlimited on paid plans and every paid plan carries commercial rights. The cost per minute climbs once you outgrow Pro: if you download every allowed minute, annual billing works out at $0.183 a minute on Pro and $0.667 on Business, which also adds team features.

Every WellSaid figure on this page comes from WellSaid’s pricing page and its help center, read on 20 October 2026, in US dollars. Academy data: counted on 20 October 2026, our text-to-speech coverage before this page was two reviews (ElevenLabs and Speechify) and a 30-prompt ElevenLabs pack, which makes this our third text-to-speech review.

Prices and allowances come from WellSaid’s pricing page, which opens on the annual-billing view. A monthly allowance resets each month, and a yearly allowance is one bucket for the year. The cost per allowance minute row is our arithmetic: the price divided by the full allowance, as if every minute were downloaded.

What you get

  • ✓Retakes do not count against the cap: paid plans offer unlimited generation, and only downloaded finished audio uses minutes.
  • ✓Commercial rights from the first paid plan: even Starter includes full commercial rights, which the free Trial does not.
  • ✓Annual billing is a straight saving: the same minutes for 47% less on Starter and 33% less on Pro, by the arithmetic above.
  • ✓Extra minutes can be added in Studio: Starter, Pro and Business subscribers can top up without changing plan.
  • ✓A free Trial with no credit card: 3 downloaded minutes a month let you try Studio before you pay.

The trade-offs

  • ✕The caps are tight for volume: 20 downloaded minutes a month on Starter and 180 on Pro, with no rollover.
  • ✕Cost per minute climbs at team scale: Business works out at $0.667 per allowance minute against $0.183 for Pro billed annually.
  • ✕Payments are non-refundable, including unused time and add-on minutes, so the annual payment is spent for the year.
  • ✕Extra minutes have no listed price on the pricing page or in the add-on help article, so a heavy month cannot be costed before you buy.
  • ✕Languages beyond English need Enterprise, which is quote-only and has no public price.

Worth it if…

  • →You publish narration for courses, training or marketing video and need full commercial rights from the first paid plan.
  • →Your volume sits between 20 and 180 finished minutes a month, where Pro covers it, as it does at 120 minutes.
  • →You redo takes often and want retakes that do not use up the allowance.
  • →Your workload is lumpy, with one heavy month in a quiet year: an annual Pro plan holds the whole year’s minutes in one bucket.

Skip it if…

  • →You regularly need more than 180 finished minutes a month from one account and cannot see an add-on price yet.
  • →You narrate in languages other than English, which WellSaid lists for Enterprise only.
  • →You want a refund path, since WellSaid says payments are non-refundable, including unused time.
  • →You plan to use the free Trial for client work, which the pricing page rules out.

How much does a minute of WellSaid voiceover cost?

WellSaid meters downloaded minutes, the minutes of finished audio you export. Its June 2026 plan changes article gives the unit: a 3-minute clip counts as 3 downloaded minutes. Generation is unlimited on paid plans and regenerating a clip does not count, so the cap applies to what you take out of Studio.

Take a trainer who needs 120 finished minutes a month, which is 1,440 a year. Starter cannot cover it: 20 minutes a month on monthly billing, or 240 a year on annual billing, which is the same 20 a month. Pro can. Billed monthly, Pro costs $49 x 12 = $588 a year, so $588 / 1,440 minutes is $0.408 per downloaded minute. Billed annually it is $396 / 1,440 minutes, or $0.275, and the 720 minutes left over from its 2,160 go unused when the allowance resets at renewal.

A 10-hour month changes the answer, and it matters whether it is a one-off. One 600-minute month in an otherwise 120-minute year totals 600 + 11 x 120 = 1,920 minutes, which fits inside Pro’s annual bucket and costs $0.206 per downloaded minute at the same annual price. On monthly billing that month overshoots the 180-minute allowance by 420 minutes, and spare minutes from the quiet months do not carry over.

If every month needs 600 minutes (7,200 a year), Pro covers 30% of it on either billing term. Business allows 2,880 minutes per user a year, WellSaid’s help center says minutes are pooled across the seats you buy, and the pricing page caps Business at 5 seats. Two seats give 5,760 minutes, short of 7,200, so you need three: 3 x $1,920 is $5,760, or $0.80 per downloaded minute at 7,200 minutes. Enterprise is quote-only, with custom seats and minutes.

Is WellSaid cheaper billed annually?

Yes per month, and the minutes are the same. Twelve months of Starter billed monthly cost 12 x $19 = $228, against $120 billed annually, which is $108 less (47%). Pro costs $588 monthly against $396 annually, $192 less (33%). Those match the “Save 47%” and “Save 33%” badges on WellSaid’s page, and the allowances line up too: 20 x 12 = 240 and 180 x 12 = 2,160.

The trade is cash up front. WellSaid says subscription payments are non-refundable, including unused time and plan changes, and advises cancelling at least two days before a renewal. Monthly Pro costs less than the annual payment through month 8 ($392) and more from month 9 ($441); Starter flips after month 6 ($114, then $133). Business and Enterprise are billed annually only.

Which plan is the first with commercial rights, and what does the free Trial give you?

Starter is the first plan with full commercial rights. WellSaid’s pricing FAQ says all paid plans include them, covering voiceovers in any commercial or public-facing content. The Trial does not: its card reads “3 download minutes per month (no commercial rights)”, and the plan table crosses out commercial usage rights for Trial alone.

The Trial needs no credit card. It allows 3 downloaded minutes a month, 3 projects, MP3 at 24 kHz and a generation limit listed as 10 minutes, with no period given, where paid plans say Unlimited. Caption files are not included, and add-on minutes are not available on trial accounts.

Pro adds unlimited projects (Starter has 10), sample rates up to 48 kHz (Starter is 24 kHz) and the Adobe Express integration. Business adds a team workspace, up to 5 seats, the Adobe Premiere Pro integration, live chat support and invoicing. Languages beyond English and translation are listed for Enterprise only.

What do extra minutes cost, and does buying them beat upgrading?

WellSaid sells extra minutes as add-ons inside Studio. They work on Starter, Pro and Business minute-based plans, not on the Trial, and Enterprise accounts go through an account manager. You pick a monthly or yearly tier, only one add-on can be active at a time, and the charge is prorated to your billing period. Add-on minutes reset at renewal without rolling over, and the charges are non-refundable.

The tiers and their prices are not listed on the pricing page or in the help article, so this page cannot say what an extra minute costs. It can give the bar an add-on has to beat. Moving from Starter to Pro adds 160 minutes a month for $30 more on monthly billing, about $0.19 per extra minute, and 1,920 minutes a year for $276 more on annual billing, about $0.144. Pro to Business on annual billing adds 720 minutes a year for $1,524 more, about $2.12 per extra minute, though Business also adds seats and team tools. Compare the add-on rate shown in Studio with those figures before you upgrade for minutes alone.

What changed in 2026, and where WellSaid’s own pages disagree

WellSaid’s help center says it introduced the Starter and Pro individual plans and downloaded-minute metering in June 2026, and that a plan no longer listed for purchase keeps running for existing subscribers. The pricing page adds that its prices are for new customers, so a price list from before June may describe plans that are no longer listed.

Two details differ between pages. Export formats: the plan table lists MP3 and TXT for Pro, the FAQ lists MP3 for Starter and Pro, and the page’s structured plan data adds WAV and OGG for Pro. The table and the FAQ both put WAV and OGG on Business and Enterprise, so confirm before buying Pro for WAV files. Downgrades: the pricing FAQ says support can downgrade you from the start of the next billing cycle, while the help center says moving from Pro back to Starter means cancelling and re-subscribing with the same email.

WellSaid against ElevenLabs and Speechify

This page prints no ElevenLabs or Speechify price, because those belong on their own vendor pages and the units differ. Our ElevenLabs review covers a text-to-speech and cloning product billed through a credit meter, and our Speechify review separates a listening app from the Studio plans that carry commercial rights. For an avatar on screen rather than voice alone, see the Synthesia review.

To compare fairly, fix one basket such as 120 finished minutes a month, read each vendor’s plan table, and divide the price of the plan that covers it by the minutes you download. To draft scripts first, the 30-prompt ElevenLabs pack opens with a Voiceover Script Writing category, written for ElevenLabs, so adapt the wording for WellSaid.

The verdict

WellSaid is worth paying for when your narration fits a downloaded-minute allowance and you publish it. For about 120 minutes a month, Pro billed annually is the plan that fits, at $0.275 per downloaded minute against $0.408 billed monthly. Starter suits a creator who downloads 20 minutes a month or fewer, and its annual price is a 47% saving on the same minutes.

The cautions are plain: allowances reset with no rollover, payments are non-refundable, extra minutes carry no listed price, and the cost per minute rises sharply on a team plan. Read the add-on rate in Studio before you upgrade.
