Is Clay worth it in 2026?
What the Launch and Growth plans cost after the March 2026 pricing change, how Actions and Data Credits are counted, and what one enriched lead works out to.
The quick answer
Clay is worth it for people who build repeatable prospecting and enrichment workflows from many data sources. Launch costs $185 a month on monthly billing or $167 a month billed annually, with 15,000 Actions and 2,500 Data Credits a month. Since March 2026 every enrichment uses one Action, plus Data Credits when the data comes from Clay’s marketplace, so the real cost depends on what you enrich. Light users should stay on Free.
Short answer: Clay is worth paying for if you enrich hundreds of leads a month and want one table that pulls from many data providers. In March 2026 Clay replaced its credit-only plans with Launch at $185 a month (or $167 billed annually), which meters two things: Actions for the work and Data Credits for the data. For occasional list building, the Free plan or a single data provider is cheaper.
The change matters because the price on the card is not the price of a lead. Clay’s Actions and Data Credits documentation says a fully enriched record typically costs 6 to 20 Data Credits, plus one Action per enrichment step. The plan you need depends on that per-record number, worked out in dollars below.
Clay plans vs Apollo, prices as of October 29, 2026
Clay plan prices are the sum of an Action tier and a Data Credit tier. Apollo is priced per seat. Yearly totals in the text are our arithmetic.
| Feature | Clay Free | Clay Launch | Clay Growth | Apollo Basic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly billing | $0 | $185/month | $495/month | Check Apollo’s monthly toggle |
| Annual billing | $0 | $167/month | $446/month | $49/seat/month |

What you get
- ✓One table, 150+ providers: no separate contract for each data source.
- ✓Cheaper data since March 2026: about $0.05 per credit on Launch vs about $0.07 to $0.08 on legacy Starter.
- ✓No charge for misses: an enrichment with no result uses no Actions or credits.
- ✓Growth got cheaper: $495 a month vs $800 for legacy Pro.
- ✓Usable Free plan: 500 Actions and 100 Data Credits a month to learn the tool.
The trade-offs
- ✕Two meters to track: Actions and Data Credits run out separately.
- ✕Entry price went up: $167 a month billed annually vs $134 for legacy Starter.
- ✕Own API keys still cost Actions: bringing your own data no longer avoids platform charges.
- ✕No Action top-ups: running out means moving to a higher tier.
- ✕CRM sync needs Growth: Launch has no CRM auto-sync or HTTP API.
Worth it if…
- →Growth and sales ops people who enrich hundreds of leads a month from several providers.
- →Teams that want waterfalls, AI research and signals in one table rather than a stack of tools.
- →Learners building GTM automation skills who can start on Free and upgrade once workflows run.
Skip it if…
- →You need emails for a few dozen contacts a month: one database tool is cheaper.
- →You already pay your data vendors and only need scheduling: a workflow tool may cover it.
- →You cannot predict your enrichment volume and need a flat, fixed bill.
What do Clay’s plans cost in 2026?
The Clay pricing page lists four plans. Free includes 500 Actions and 100 Data Credits a month, unlimited seats and tables, Claygent web research and up to 200 rows per table. It does not include phone number enrichment.
Launch is $185 a month on monthly billing or $167 a month on annual billing, which comes to $2,220 or $2,004 for a year (our arithmetic). The price is built from two sliders: 15,000 Actions for $60 a month plus 2,500 Data Credits for $125 on monthly billing, or $54 plus $113 on annual. Launch adds phone enrichment, job-change and other signals, email campaign integrations and up to 50,000 rows per table.
Growth is $495 a month, or $446 a month billed annually ($5,940 or $5,352 a year, our arithmetic), with 40,000 Actions and 6,000 Data Credits. It adds CRM auto-sync, HTTP API calls, webhooks, web intent signals, ad audiences and priority support. Enterprise is custom with an annual commitment. Annual billing saves 10% on both paid self-serve plans.
Both meters scale. On Launch, the Action tier goes up to 200,000 a month for $540 and the Data Credit tier up to 50,000 a month for $2,125, both on monthly billing.
How has Clay’s price changed?
Archive snapshots of the pricing page from December 6, 2025 and March 4, 2026 show the old credit-only lineup on annual billing: Starter at $134 a month for 2,000 credits a month, Explorer at $314 for 10,000 credits and Pro at $720 for 50,000 credits. There were no Actions; every enrichment simply cost credits.
By the April 6, 2026 snapshot, those plans had become Launch at $167 and Growth at $446 on annual billing. Clay’s legacy plans page dates the switch to March 2026. The entry annual price rose by $33 a month, while the top self-serve plan fell: Clay’s published pricing memo says Growth at $495 a month is “more than $300 cheaper” than legacy Pro at $800.
The other half of the change is the price of data. Clay says it cut marketplace data prices by 50% to 90%, and its legacy page puts the cost per credit at about $0.07 to $0.08 on legacy Starter against about $0.05 on Launch. In exchange, platform work now costs Actions, which the same page sizes at about 15% of the cost of a credit. Existing customers could keep legacy plans, but any plan change after April 10, 2026 moves them to the new model.
Actions vs Data Credits, explained simply
Actions count the work Clay does: each enrichment from any provider, each AI run, each record exported to a CRM or sequencer, and each HTTP API call. Imports, formulas, filters and moving data between tables use no Actions. Actions reset each month, cannot be topped up and require a higher tier when you run out.
Data Credits pay for the data itself, from 150+ providers. Emails are cheap and phone numbers are expensive. Unused credits roll over on monthly plans up to twice the monthly amount; annual plans can carry over 15% if you renew at the same tier or higher. One-time top-ups carry a 30% premium.
Two rules soften the bill. An enrichment that returns no result costs neither Actions nor Data Credits. And if you connect your own API key for a provider, that step uses one Action but no Data Credits. That second rule is the real change for anyone who already pays their own data vendors: legacy plans had no Action charges, so those API-key steps now carry a platform cost they did not have before.
What does one enriched lead cost on Launch?
Take Launch on monthly billing: $125 buys 2,500 Data Credits. At Clay’s own range of 6 to 20 credits per fully enriched record, those credits cover about 416 records at the low end or 125 at the high end. That puts the all-in cost at roughly $0.44 to $1.48 per fully enriched lead, counting the full $185 plan price (our arithmetic).
A lighter workflow is much cheaper. Clay’s documentation shows 100 contacts enriched with a LinkedIn profile and a work email using 95 Data Credits. At that rate, 2,500 credits cover about 2,600 contacts a month, or about 7 cents each on the $185 plan, using up to three Actions per contact, well inside the 15,000 Actions included (our arithmetic).
The practical lesson: the price per lead moves more with what you enrich than with the plan you pick. Phone numbers and multi-provider waterfalls push a record toward 20 credits. If your workflow is mostly emails and company data, Launch goes a long way. If it needs phones at scale, price the Data Credit slider first.
What do users say about Clay?
Independent discussion is thin and mostly comes from builders. On Hacker News, one commenter summed up why people pay: Clay “connects many providers that each have licenses starting around $100-150/mo” (April 21, 2025). Another, while promoting a cheaper alternative, quoted a cold-email operator saying “I love Clay, but I’m paying over $300/month just to use custom APIs” (August 12, 2025).
Those two comments capture the trade-off well. Clay saves you from managing a stack of data subscriptions, and charges for the convenience. Clay itself acknowledges the complexity: its pricing memo lists “the model is more complex” as a risk and says plans were sized so 90% of customers never hit the Action limit.
Academy data: none of the prompt packs in our library names Clay as a tool, while 31 mention prospecting, including the lead generation prompts. They help write and research outreach, but they do not enrich records or sync a CRM.
Clay vs Apollo and general automation tools
Apollo Basic is $49 per seat a month billed annually with 30,000 credits per seat a year, and comes with its own contact database and outreach tools. For one seller who mostly needs emails from a single database, that is $588 a year against $2,004 for Clay Launch on annual billing (our arithmetic). Clay earns its higher price when you combine several providers, run AI research on accounts or trigger workflows from signals.
General automation tools are a different trade. If you already pay for data APIs, a workflow tool such as n8n or Zapier can call them on a schedule. You give up Clay’s table view, waterfalls across providers and built-in marketplace. For autonomous sales assistants, see the Lindy review.
The verdict
Clay is worth $185 a month (or $167 billed annually) when you run real enrichment volume: at 6 to 20 credits per record, Launch works out to roughly $0.44 to $1.48 per fully enriched lead, and far less for email-only workflows. That is a fair price for not managing a dozen data contracts.
It is not worth it for occasional prospecting, where Free or a single database covers the need. The answer also changes if your workflow leans on phone numbers or your own API keys: price the Data Credit and Action sliders for your exact steps before committing to a year.
